Year 2 - Day #84

Made it to an episode of Friends that had Ross's lesbian ex-wife - and I got confused, I thought she was the "hot girl" who Joey was into, because the two actresses had the same hair, same coloring, and height. Also it was right after the episode that Ross was hooking up with the "hot girl". I should also add that the humor is beginning to grate. I don't binge sitcoms well - sooner or later the jokes start to annoy me, mainly because the writers have begun to repeat themselves?

Another thunderstorm clicked through - which cleared out some of the humidity and nervous energy. Bit jumpy there for a while - the lighting felt like it was coming through the window, and the lights flashed at one point. Happened right as I was wrapping up work.

I don't understand why they feel the need to send me back to my office, I'm doing splendidly at home. They will get less work from me - since I have to work in an hour and 15 minute commute or the equivalent of two hours and a half round-trip.

The Governor keeps posting videos of NY Coming Back on FB and the news.

Here's the latest AD.

Meanwhile Crazy Org - decided to get new leadership. This is not news. In fact it's hard to care. They have been changing out the leadership every two-four years if that. In fact, it got so frequent, that we gave up adding their name to the letter head. We now just list all the agencies. I mean it was starting to get ridiculous - every one-two years, we'd have to get new letterhead. We've changed letter head so many times...

This is what happens when your leadership is appointed by the Governor and voted in by the State Legislature. Political appointments change constantly.

Anyhow, The old head honcho has now stepped aside (apparently he's becoming the head of another government agency - there's not exactly a shortage of them in NY State), to be replaced by two new head honchos. Also it's the first time in crazy org's history that a woman has run the organization, well with a man as her boss. So not that ground-breaking. They split the role just in time for a woman to take it over.. They think they are being progressive and groundbreaking. They aren't.

I got three emails on it. It hit the press before it hit us...which tells you something I suppose. I find out things about crazy org from the newpapers and the broadcast news. That's why I watch the Governor's briefings to be honest - to keep ahead of what is happening at crazy company.

COVID

Right now - the race is on to get as many folks vaccinated as possible, so they can lift more restrictions. And they are kind of going over board. Central Park is planning a huge concert sometime in July - with a limit of 60,000 in attendance. (It's being televised - which works for me, I just watch it on my big screen tv.)

And Washington Square Park apparently had police incident last night. The cops with full riot gear marched through the park to clear it, and close it by 10pm. The Parks Service had decided to impose a curfew and called the cops to enforce it. Normally parks are open until 12 Am. But alas, they were running into issues with over-crowding and litter. I don't really blame them - I saw the video, that park was packed. Sure folks were chilling, but en mass.

I don't understand people. Why would you want to chill in a crowded park at night? With no lights? Or go to a crowded concert? What is the appeal of a crowd?

I don't know - am I nuts for wanting to wait a bit longer before I engage with the world? I do - I want to wait until July 2. I'm heading back into the office on July 6, as soon as the reasonable accommodation expires.
People in my neighborhood are still wearing masks, and they haven't exactly done away with the mask edict.

Mother is hanging in there - sometimes from our phone chats, I think by a thread. She misses my Dad. Does visit him - but its difficult. Today she took a break and went to get a haircut. They've informed her that she can visit him more now - than before, and even spend time with him in his room, to watch television. Which will give her the opportunity to check his hear monitor.

Mother: I'm trying to figure out if I should get him a private room. We need to make a decision soon - since they have limited vacancies.
ME: Then do it. What's stopping you?
Mother: Well he hasn't asked for one - and as our case worker pointed out, he knows where everything is - where his bathroom is, his bed, etc. If I moved him - it could confuse him. It's the mistake I made with my mother - I moved her too often and I think she got confused.

Actually it was all the UTI's that did my grandmother in.

I asked mother about the new Altzheimer's Drug, but she's wary. Also she apparently knows more about it than I do. I caught an article on it in the NY Times - she watched an hour long analysis of it on PBS. One of the side-effects of the drug is brain bleeds - and my father is already on blood thinners. This could be counter-productive. Also, the FDA isn't certain about it and is tentatively approving the drug - because there's nothing else on the market. But so far tests and trials haven't been that conclusive. In short - it's not worth the risk for my Dad.

Losing a parent to Alzheimers or anyone really is the worse kind of hell.

I too am waiting a bit longer, I'll be one of the few still wearing a mask when I next go grocery shopping. I just want to give them a bit more chance to notice any unexpected downside of relaxing the rules but, admittedly, it's increasingly looking reassuring.

How cute do they want the Muppets to be FFS?
Sorry about your dad. How many is he sharing his room with? Do they get on?
