Y2/D249....Saturday
Nov. 20th, 2021 06:02 pmIt was cool. But pretty. I'm still not used to it getting darker earlier. Which is odd, usually I don't have any issues with the transition, I think it is this topsy-turvy year.
Still struggling with a bit of a brain fog and this desire to do nothing. I managed to pick up a prescription today, robo vaccuum (speaking of which, I probably should check on it), and received various pants and a shirt that I ordered online. To date - Talbots is reliable size wise and delivers the goods, Amazon - hit or miss. You do get what you pay for - and Amazon is cheap.
Having new pants makes me feel better about the work week at least.
Tired. Bought a small humidifier for the bed room. It can go on counter tops. And chocolate x-mas candy that I don't need.
Superman & Lois - has turned out to be surprisingly good. Layered characters, with enough sci-fi mixed with real world problems to work. Also feels like watching a film - the film tonal quality is more Zack Snyder than Joss Whedon or Smallville. It's darker grainier tones, color wise, than bright techno-color tones, with a darker, angstier mood.
Also it has some very strong female characters - who aren't super-powered, but intelligent and clever. Clark also is not portrayed as a dummy.
This is by the way available on HBO Max - I watched one episode on it, after I had one that I'd taped get pre-empted by a basketball game.
Spiderman: Far From Home
Not bad, overall enjoyable - but mainly due to the charisma of the young stars - Tom Holland and Zendaya.
So Spidey saves the day, only to have Mysterio set him up again. Mysterio at the very end of the episode reveals Spidey's true name to the world, after painting Spidey as the villain. Mysterio - as played by Jake Gyllenhal, is kind of anti-Tony Stark. Spidey thinks Mysterio or Brent is a good substitute for Tony, but he's really yet another of Tony's disgruntled employees. So, Spidey gets to be hit with yet another villain created by Tony's misdeeds. The last villain, Vulture, was also because of Tony Stark. I've a feeling the third film in the franchise will focus more on Spidey, and this film was a way of bidding adieu to Tony Stark and releasing him from the franchise completely.
It's interesting that it is Sony's Spiderman film that does it - and not an MCU film. Considering Tony Stark as portrayed by Downy Jr. is what spearheaded the entire MCU franchise. But it works - in a way, even more so that Nick Fury isn't actually there - but off world working on something else, while two Skree are filling in for him. It also explains the one liner in the film "Don't invoke Captain Marvel's name" - the Skree wouldn't want them too, not sure Nick would have cared.
Outside of the teen romantic crap - which I found more grating than amusing, the film worked. MJ is portrayed as far more savvy than she is in previous iterations. And once we get past the initial Mysterio/Spidey team up, the film flies along splendidly.
I do wish that Sony would find a place to put their films - I did not enjoy taping it off of Broadcast Cable.
Is it just me or has DW been very slow of late? Takes forever to post, and to comment.
