Mostly what you need to know about TAs (the one's teaching a class not just grading for a lecture class) is that most students prefer having TAs rather than professors teaching for the first couple years before taking advanced classes. I taught one of the 4 basic Russian language courses each term for several years, taught Russian reading for grad students in other departments, and then was part of the group that assisted students who were learning the language at their own pace rather than being locked into taking the 4 courses one at a time.
