I too think visually, glad I escaped phonics. I read extremely easily, and can mentally hold the relative arrangements of things together well in my head, which is helpful in software development, kind of the opposite of my father, who was also dyslexic, and enough years ago that it broadly killed his high school career, though in later years he did learn plenty of technical stuff in self-study from textbooks. He couldn't read novels at all, it was just far more work than it was worth. Weirdly, despite being articulate verbally, he also couldn't compose letters for toffee, it wasn't just typos, the whole arrangement of the sentences was just very unidiomatic.

He ended up doing accounting and tax, my mother would review his work and unswitch the digits.
