Crowe and Bramson scored a major coup in securing a Led Zeppelin recording “That’s The Way” for the movie and soundtrack album. Robert Plant and Jimmy Page have never licensed one of their performances to a soundtrack; virtually all of the material they’ve recorded has been issued on their own Swan Song/Atlantic label. Crowe and Bramson flew to London in May to screen Almost Famous for Plant and Page, who were so moved by the film that they not only granted use of “That’s The Way” for the soundtrack, but also gave their blessing for Crowe to use four other songs in the movie: “The Rain Song,” “Misty Mountain Hop,” “Tangerine” and “Bron-Yr-Aur.”
VH1 aired a special version of Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer” music video which featured the tour-bus scene lifted straight from the film, complete with scripted dialogue included the vocal of actors Billy Crudup, Noah Taylor, and Kate Hudson. “Cameron made an amazing movie that is just sweet and tender and fun,” says Wayne Isaak, VH1’s executive VP of talent and music programming. “When “Tiny Dancer” comes on in the movie it’s pretty touching, and Elton is still a relevant artist to us, so we broke it out and we’re playing it a lot.”
2. Original Motion Picture Soundtrack from Fame included Fame, Hot Lunch, Out Here on My Own (Bonus Track), I Sing the Body Electric. (This was an original soundtrack - most of the songs, if not all were written for the movie.)
3. Pretty in Pink Original Motion Picture Soundtrack - possibly among my favorites. It includes, Left of Center, If you Leave, Shellshock, Try a Little Tenderness, Pretty in Pink...
4. The Mission Original Score - it is a breathtakingly beautiful score. After my family saw the film in theaters - we rushed out to get the album.
5. Gross Point Blank's Original Motion Picture Soundtrack - includes Blister in the Song, Guns & Roses version of Live & Let Die, Mirror in the Bathroom, Under Pressure (David Bowie and Queen)...
It was hard to limit this list. I love Movie Soundtracks.
Note there's also scores. But I don't tend to collect scores as much.

Date: 2022-09-29 01:15 pm (UTC)My five favorite Broadway musicals:
1. Cabaret (Kander/Ebb)
With Kander and Ebb, it's a toss up between this and Chicago, but the chilling "If You Could See Her" is the tiebreaker.
2. West Side Story (Bernstein/Sondheim)
I could do a top five with Sondheim alone, but the combination of Sondheim and Bernstein has its own special magic.
3. Fiddler on the Roof (Bock/Harnick)
My father's world. When I was a child, my parents took me to see Fiddler, with Zero Mostel as Tevye. One of my most cherished childhood memories.
4. The Sound of Music (Rodgers/Hammerstein)
My mother's world. She would sing "Edelweiss" and it would take her back home.
5. How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (Frank Loesser)
When talking Loesser musicals, you automatically think Guys and Dolls. But this is his masterpiece. Simultaneously warm hearted and completely cynical, it still sums up the business world better than a dozen Wall Street analysts.

Date: 2022-09-30 02:56 am (UTC)2. Sondheim.
Hmmm. Bernstein's music is beautiful. And I adore West Side Story. (I did get burned out on it finally though.)
However, go listen to this song... Children will Listen from Into to the Woods...which is haunting.
I can't choose between Sondheim's, it goes with my mood. There are a few I don't like, but I like a few of the songs from each. I adore Somewhere from West Side Story, Cool, and the score. Into the Woods. Sweeny Todd. A Little Night Music has Send in the Clowns.
3. Fiddler on the Roof - yeah I have the album on my phone. I had to get rid of it on my phone finally, because I had it memorized.
There's some lovely songs from it. My mother's favorite is Sunrise, Sunset.
4. Sound of Music is just pure nostalgia. We loved it as kids. Was your mother from Austria?

Date: 2022-09-30 03:00 am (UTC)Reality Bites had a soundtrack? I can't remember it at all. I saw it, but no memory of it.
Maurice Jarre was brilliant the sweeping score, he also did Lawrence of Arabia.
Randy Newman did The Natural? Am I confusing him with the guy who did the music to Toy Story?
The Godfather and Gone with the Wind - have two of the most memorable and beautiful scores on record.

Date: 2022-09-30 03:03 am (UTC)Totally understand Jesus Christ Superstar.
You've not seen Sound of Music? I didn't think that was possible. It plagued our television set growing up until well recently, showing every single Christmas, Easter, and various times in between.

Date: 2022-09-30 03:56 am (UTC)Toy Story. The Natural. I Love L.A. and Short People. Yes, it is all the same Randy Newman. But Randy wasn't even the first member of his family to do motion picture scores! His uncles, Alfred and Lionel Newman were Hollywood legends. Alfred scored Wuthering Heights; Lionel won an Oscar for Hello Dolly!

Date: 2022-10-01 12:38 am (UTC)Didn't realize there was a song associated with the Angel S1 I Will Remember You episode - aka the episode that the writers used to kill Bangle. (OR they attempted to - some people are stubborn and not very good at story analysis. But most folks got it.)
It ended that ship for me - pretty much permanently. Also, I think I stopped watching Angel for a bit after it - I came back for the Faith arc but gave up until the Fanged Four arc in s2. Then Dochawk sent me tapes of Angel S2-S3, to get me caught up - so I'd write analysis on Angel on the board.
So I did, and I liked the series better - after I'd given up on Bangle and moved on to Briley then to Spuffy. I tend to go with the story thread in regards to shipping, mainly because I'm not that masochistic.

Date: 2022-10-01 12:39 am (UTC)Oh, they are doing a revival right now - in which the entire cast is female, and they've redone some of the songs and music.

Date: 2022-10-01 12:48 am (UTC)Even today there are viewers who think that AtS episode somehow solidified Bangel forever. That drives me nuts, which is why I say the episode wasn't very good -- too many people didn't get it.

Date: 2022-10-01 02:54 am (UTC)Niece: But Angel and Buffy were so romantic..
ME: I was a Buffy/Angel fan until S1 Angel, which I was watching at the same time - specifically, until the episode - I Will Always Remember You -
Niece: Oh that was so sad, and so romantic -
Me: He gave her no choices, made all of them, and was patronizing...
Niece: But it was romantic...
Niece is otherwise quite brilliant. This is clearly her parents stupidity showing through. ;-)
I enjoyed mocking Bangle fans after a certain point. The writers had kind of made it clear by the end of S4 Buffy that the ship was over, but they liked to tease the Bangle fans, and then snatch the carrot . I figured out they were playing tease, snatch - basically Bangle fans were Charlie Brown, and the writers were Lucy, and Bangle was the football - in Angel S1 and Buffy S4. I'd hope until IWARY. (I Wary...hello!) If you think about it - they played tease snatch with Bangle pretty much all the way through the series, did the same thing with Spuffy, but to a lesser extent - actually Spuffy fans got rewarded, making it fairly clear where the evil writers preference was. (The writers were Spuffy shippers, while the actors were Bangle shippers. It was hilarious actually.)
Gellar: So, Buffy and Angel will be together.
Writers: Maybe
Gellar: why are Spike and Buffy boinking
Writers: It's fun.
Gellar: Where's Bangle in all this..
Writers: you get a kiss coming up
Gellar: And a cookie dough speech, really?
Then comics came - and the writers basically destroyed Bangle - the actors had even less say in the comics. It is no more. Any doubt I had in my mind about where the writers stood in regards to that ship was gone by the time I finished reading the Buffy comics.
