Where I Stopped waffling and took the plunge...on numerous things

Well, I bought a cell phone. A T-Mobile. 60 minutes a month (day), 500 minutes a month (weekend). Won't bore you with the financial details. He told me it was the cheapest I could get for what I wanted, he's probably wrong, but it's a one year contract and I can deal with that. It's more or less for emergencies and getting together with people. Now I just have to figure out the thing. But suffice it to say, I've joined the celluar community now or ie. arrived. Thought you'd want to know. Scary. Next I'll be attempting to do the DSL thing and netflix. Not yet though. One baby step at a time.

Rented the first CD of the L-Word (1st three episodes), because incredibly curious. Half my flist seems to be nuts about it. Want to see why. Well not half, a small fourth, but it is a highly credible and respectable fourth of the list.

And, ahem...bought a nice little package from Amazon.com for myself. Thanks for the comments by the way and the reviews, they helped. I consider it my granny's belated birthday gift to me. And instead of being a purely practical
gift to myself such as the nightstand and cell phone, it's one of those gifts you just sort of squee over when they arrive in the mail, then set aside a few hours one day to indulge in while eating ben and jerry's chocolat fudge core ice cream out of the box. (Actually make that vanilla light - my stomach doesn't like chocolate fudge core ice cream any more.) I basically got all the one's I mentioned except Angel S5. Putting that one off just a bit longer. Will probably get it eventually - since it was my favorite season and so perfectly satirizes life in a major corporation. Also ordered Hammered by Elizabeth Bear. Read the synopsis - and would like to read a female centric sci-fi for a change of pace, particularly one with an older heroine. Most of the ones written by men have women who are 20 years old with big boobs. Heinlein? I'm looking at you. Plus? I like Elizabeth's writing style, been reading her on my flist for a while now.

Lovely, productive day.

Now watch me stress, berate, and second-guess myself over my purchases. Sigh.

I'm curious what you will think of the L Word. It's not necessarily deep (no more so than QAF), but there's not much else out there like it.

Adored it. Excellent show. Interesting characters and relationships.

Much better written than Sen in The City was, and far better
character development. Actually it's better written than most of the tv shows I've seen this year. Dialogue, the relationships, the interactions. Only other show that is as well written as this one that I've seen, is probably BattleStar Galatica.

Each of the characters is well-rounded and likable, but also complicated.
My favorite of the four episodes I saw, which included the pilot, was the fourth one - where Mrs. Peabody shows Bette (Jennifer Beals) character
the painting and Bette bursts into tears and how that conflicted with the Creative Arts Council who wanted art to be comfortable and didn't want to be emotionally moved by it. Lovely metaphor for relationships.

Definitely want to see more of this.

One of the unique things about the show are the teasers. They always take you some place else in time, or some place else in the world, but places that always have relevance to the story.

I'm off to friends' house tonight to catch her up on Season 1 episodes.

BSG is great, too, I just started watching it today.

Congrats on all the purchases. I bought a cell phone myself only about 9 months ago because I needed it for work related business and I went with Verizon. The wireless dsl I did in January but I don't see myself doing Netflix. I'm surrounded by dvds at work and I never take them home, I choose the titles and then never watch them. Not enough hours in the day I guess.
You'll enjoy all your dvds.

Good for You !!!
