I gotta ask about the disclaimers & self-belittling: Does it work? Do they really protect you, or is it an illusion?
Well, let's put it this way - I never ever turned a paper in late and I have no problems responding to most entries and if I inadvertently make a mistake in spelling or grammar, I let it go. So yeah it works. What it basically does is say, "hey this isn't perfect, it's never going to be perfect, but here it is and it's better than nothing at all."
I'm a perfectionist too. The disclaimers are my way of turning that part of myself off and letting something get through, if I didn't? You wouldn't have seen any essays. Because let's face it, nothing we write is ever perfect - we'll always find a flaw.
