No, just dumb white people. (And possibly the poor Native Americans). Although Powell and Wayne had a six-pack cigarette a day habit - and both insisted it was smoking that gave them lung cancer. (I don't know - I doubt inhaling the dust helped, and they died relatively young. Also Morehead was a health fanatic.)
Those lines are horrible. I looked it up on Wiki - and Wayne won the worst actor award in a film that year. Apparently Huges felt guilty about it - and bought all 12 million copies, preventing it from being released anywhere for years afterwards. He also had shipped the dirt from the site to studio lots in Hollywood to replicate the site for filming there - so radioactive dirt was shipped to Hollywood. LOL!
