Just returned from book club, or what I like to call the monthly (actually we skip months so it's sometime every other monthly) wine, beer, food chat session. At any rate, this was an interesting one - because a) I only found out about it two weeks ago, b) I got the book literally on Sunday, which was a surprise, b/c I was sure I wouldn't be able to get it - since, broke. But one of the ladies had ordered three copies by accident and kindly gave me one. c) I'd never heard of it and it was hard to find, d) it was written by the guy who founded the book club, a Brooklyn writer who used to own a book store specializing in horror, sci-fi, mysteries. (Gone now). The guy came to the club meeting and we got to discuss the stories and his intent for each with him.

The book? It's called Walk in Shadows by Nicholas Kaufmann. It's a group of horror short stories with classic "noir" twists. There's approximately 12 stories total and it's 258 pages in length, published by House of Dominion Books.

The first story is called The Jew of Prague and is an interesting version of the golem legend.
Other tales include a nightmarish cab ride, a hit man whose marks won't stay dead, a teenage street gang in Brooklyn who has to deal with zombies, and an interesting take on the McCarthy Hearings and Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It's about $15, so not cheap (mine was free, thank god). But it is worth a read if you get the chance. Particularly if you are a fan of the noir horror tale - common in the late 1950s and 60s or like Angel the Series.
No vampires though, sorry.

Our next book is Wicked which I managed to convince them to do instead of Da Vinci Code.
Yay me.

Now, all I have to do is finish Disorderly Knights which I keep getting distracted from - job hunt, Firefly DVDs, other DVDs, book club... and Wicked and get a job and write my own stuff and watch those DVD's and...I'm all set. Sort of.

Things to be positive about -
1. I don't have to get up early and go to work in frigid temperatures
2. Have time to read and write (when I'm not creatively blocked)
3. Have good friends...
