Want to listen to a really interesting discussion about writing, acting, directing, and producing a science-fiction television series or any series - go to Sci-Fi Channel, BSG, and click on "Roundtable Discussion".

Amongst the highlights?

1. Ron Moore discussing what it was like writing for Star Trek the Next Generation. He states on STNG and on Star Trek, there was a rule that if the actors wanted to say "their's" a certain way they had to call the writers and ask. Very little lee-way, which may explain why STNG and Trek felt so stiff to me and "sanitized". They had a very precise rule-book.

2. Role of Helo - when we saw the mini-series in a theater with full of people, numerous people asked the writers what happened to Helo. Everyone wanted to know. It wasn't originally intended for Helo to exist past being the guy who gave up his place to Boomer and Baltar.
But, the audience was fascinated by him, so he became one of the main characters and was developed past that.

3. What it is like for an actor for a writer to come on the set?

4. How do you handle bad directors and what type of directing works? This fascinated me - apparently there's a directing approach in which people say "you have to do this and say the line this way" but have no clue who the character is or the actor. The actor gets pissed because they feel like a prop or piece of ass and not an individual contributor.

Says a lot about the process.

For a good analysis of the recent BSG episode, this past weeks? Go to [livejournal.com profile] wisteria
post on it - complete with screen-recaps. It includes links to others analysis. Yes, she's a huge K/L shipper, but she does have cool ideas.
