The weather is playing havoc with my allergies. Brain feels a bit congested as a result. Can barely stand to go outside. It's not exactly pleasant out there anyhow...around 96 degrees, with 80% humidity, so it feels like 110 in the sun, and poor air quality due to smog and global warming - increasing such things as mold spores, dust mites, and pollen - which wreck havoc with allergy sufferers. (Damn people and their selfish need to drive. In a city with cheap public transportation - it is inexcusable. The continual rise in gasoline prices feels a bit like karma in a way. If you walked more, drove less, you'd not only be healthier, so would the rest of us.)
May have to go outside though - since landlord is having a baby shower from 1-5pm downstairs.
I'd sent them a gift already, so that's done. Just need to make an appearance, however brief.
Will probably do it around 3 when I'm off to do something else. Thought about seeing "Sex in the City" today, but after reading three-four lacklustre reviews and having heard Wales response, I'm thinking it'll make a much better rental. I missed the last two seasons of it anyhow, so hardly straining at the bit. "Don't Mess with the Yohan" - oddly enough appeals to me, even though I despise Adam Sandler comedies - too slapsticky. I think the reason is that it's making fun of three items that make me crazy and deserve to be made fun of: Israel, the unendingproperty feud religious war in the Middle East, and Terrorism. Also John Stewart liked it, and he normally doesn't like Adam Sandler films either.
The only political shows I watched all week were The Colbert Report and The Daily Show, which continue to make fun of the whole dog and pony show. Or elephant and donkey show.
Very happy, Obama won. Wish the Hillary Supporters would get over themselves and stop cauterwauling. Also for the record - not all women voted for Hillary. Quite a few of us did not. Thank you very much! It's like saying all women love to go shopping. So not true! Or all women love shoes! Also not true. Or all men love Football. Again, not true. I think one becomes truly wise when one learns to stop generalizing about things.
Also, for ghodsake people, Hillary didn't win *not* because she just happens to be female, but because she proved during the course of her campaign that she would not make a good leader and after suffering through eight years of Bush - the last thing we need is another bad leader. In other words, Hillary would have lost the election if she were male and white. If this election has proved anything it's that most people don't give damn what you look like or who your friends or associates happen to be. They care about what you do and say. Only nitwits care about the other things. I really wish I could ship the nitwits to outerspace along with the religious fanatics. But we can't have everything. ;-)
There was a great line on tv show recently - it was on a soap opera of all places.
"Why do you care what a bunch of people that you don't know on the internet think of you? Or even say? Why would you take advice from them or let them nitpick at your decisions - especially over people who love you, who are present in your life?"
The two things I've learned about the internet? Be careful how much you share with people you don't know. And do not take what someone writes in your livejournal or in a post personally, they don't know you - unless of course it's your best friend, hubby/signific.other, brother or sister, etc.. blogging alongside you and well, that's different.
