Stuff I remember reading this year
Dec. 16th, 2010 11:45 pmWork was a whirlwind of phone calls and stress. Now, working hard not to be anxious about travel tomorrow. Met downstairs neighbor finally - he's a marketing guy with ESPN, and get this - you think your commute to school or work is tough. This guy lives in NY, but is finishing his Masters in Los Angeles, California. Apparently it has the only school, which has the Masters program that he is interested in.
People bewilder me.
Although that shouldn't come as surprise to anyone.
Off to South Carolina tomorrow to visit my family for the Xmas holidays. Learned last night that my brother's family celebrates Hanukkah and Xmas - his wife is Jewish. He doesn't. But his wife and daughter do. All three, oddly, celebrate Xmas. Not sure I understand why he doesn't celebrate Hanukkah too. It's a festival of light...about hope in dark times. Much like Christmas is a festival of light. It's no coincidence that both holidays take place in December - the darkest and coldest season of the year - which features the beginning of Winter and the shortest day of the year. Then, after that day, the days get longer and we move towards light. Both holidays are based on stories about hope. And both contain lots of lights. Advent candles and Menorah. The other holidays celebrated at this time of year - are also about lighting candles and about light. The Festival of the Winter Solistice, and Kwanzaa. Hope is what makes us human, keeps us going. Without it we would be lost. And light symbolizes hope. This is why - the holidays around this time of year are amongst my favorite - in a dark stressful and cold month, it's nice to celebrate light and hope.
Not so much into the whole gifting this year though. Not sure why.
Good Wife was great again last night. There hasn't been a bad episode of that show all year.
It continues to be satisfying. Not everyone's cup of tea, but then everyone's cup of tea isn't necessarily mine either.
Thought about doing a list of books that I read this year, but I can't remember all the books I read this year. Pathetic, I know. But there it is. The only one's I remember are:
( things I remember reading this year and what I thought of them )
