1. The downside of painting one's nails at 10 pm at night is you have to wait for them to dry before going to bed.

2. Latest romance novel started out well enough then rapidly went downhill - but I was caught up enough in the story that I kept plugging away. Quite disappointing.

I've come across two problems in fictional novels (there's more, but we'll stick to these two):

* Writing that is so amateurish and poor that it gets in the way of a really really good story. (After the Night by Linda Howard).

* A story that is so dull, bland, and stale that it gets in the way of good writing but the writing, alas is not good enough to rise above the staleness of the story. (The Marriage Plot)

And...of course there's writing that enhances the story, and makes a story that really isn't all that interesting in of itself, fascinating and wonderful. James Joyce had that ability as did Chekov and Hemingway...they could take rather mundane tales of daily life and render them with a richness that blew you away.

3. Purchased tickets to two B-way shows for my stay-cation. Got good deals and great seats.
I'm in the Orchestra section for both Porgy and Bess, and Clyborne Park. Both at 2pm - one on July 4th and one on July 7th. And both recently won tony's. The expense is less than what it would cost me to travel somewhere and stay in a hotel, which I'm really not in the mood for.

Also scheduled a doctor's appointment for Thursday. Now just need to do the dental appointment and maybe a massage, am debating that one. Also considering doing a shopping day...maybe after the doc appointment.

4. I'm enjoying the rapid-fire dialogue in Bunheads on ABCFamily...which reminds me a lot of Gilmore Girls, has the same witty repartee...which is my sense of humor. Plus unlike a lot of these shows - it's multi-generational.

5. Between books again...not sure which book on my Kindle to read next. So many to choose from. I am resisting the urge to buy more books. Some people reduce stress by buying clothes and mani-pedi cures, I buy books on the Kindle. Personally find clothes shopping and mani/pedi cures highly stressful. It was how I was raised. I was raised by a mother who
hated shopping and never got a mani/pedi cure. So, I think why I am paying someone for something I can do myself? Also...that's how you get fungus and infections. I've gotten them, well the mani-cures at any rate. But...my hands shake, and the nail specialist gets irritated with me - it's all highly annoying.

That said? I've gotten into painting my nails. But I'm not as adventurous as I'd like to be. Don't want to stand out. I bought dark sparkly green polish, just can't get myself to put it on. Put on the purple polish only to wipe off on. Instead I wear boring mauve and marroon. When they were giving out girly and exhibitionist genes they skipped me.

Oh and NY is still having fun with Bloomberg's decision to outlaw soda and soft-drinks in NYC. That's never going to get passed. But it is funny. He can't outlaw alcohol or donuts, but hey, let's do soda and pop!
