Making my way through the tv saved up on DVR this week...there's too many, dang thing is 40% full and most of it is unwatched Elementary, Wallender III, and the Hour episodes, which I can't focus on at the moment.

It's a dreary day. Have a dinner party to go to tonight...somewhere in Midwood, that I'm trying not to dread. Requires a lot of walking and logistical issues. Suppose I could arrange to take a car service. But I like to be able to get to and from places on my own. Making a salad and bringing a pinot noir Spainish Wine, by Avanti.

On TV front?

* The DVR did not tape the last ten minutes of the Season Finale of Covert Affairs, so I apparently missed Annie turning down Eyal's offer to run away with him to Athens (after the Simon fiasco and the previous guy, I can hardly blame her - been there done that), and the big kiss between Annie and Auggie (the ship that I'm actually rooting for - actually this may well be amongst the only ships on TV that I feel any affection for and Auggie is the only guy I'd want to date). Covert Affairs manages to do the gender bit well - Annie, the tough female spy, is still very feminine, not overtly goregous, and sort of normal in her wardrobe choices. In short she feels realistic to me and an every-woman. Auggie is not the typical Beta nerd guy - he's goregous, he is adept, and a great hacker, but also blind.
Neither feels overtly Mary Sue or too good to be true. And both actors are adept. Plus they've changed over time as their relationship has changed and developed. In short it hasn't annoyed me like all the other romantic relationships on tv do.

* Big Bang Theory is amusing me to no end. I adore Amy Fowker-Fawler and her relationship with the difficult Sheldon. Plus Penny as the street-smart, but not book smart, average Joe works. Also it's a breath of fresh air that they aren't drop-dead goregous as if some makeup artist spent five hours primping them.

* Glee...is a mixed bag. I love most of the musical performances, but the plot is forgettable. Literally, I can never remember it. Sort of fades from my mind. Unlike the plot of Vamp Diaries which unfortunately clings to my brain like a bunch of barnacles as do the images. Apparently I have a weakness for supernatural vampire soap operas with snarky hot guys that wear no shirt 50% of the time, and wonky plot structures. We can add this to my weakness for other cult genres.

Speaking of musical shows? EW has a very long bit on the reshaping of the NBC show "SMASH" by Josh Safran of Gossip Girl and Chuck fame. Keep in mind this is the talent behind The OC/Gossip Girl and Chuck, not Buffy or Alias. So expectations aren't high. OTOH, at least he understands that the show needs to focus more on Broadway, Broadway shows, Broadway show numbers and less on romantic relationships, family issues, and pop song sing-a-longs. He jettisoned various actors who were dragging things down - such as Ellis (the back-biting assistant), Dev (the Indian press agent/politician boy friend of Karen - who actually had a great song and dance number last year...), Leo (the annoying teenage son who acted like he was 12, it's sad when the kid in Once Upon a Time acts older than Leo did), and Julie's hubby Frank and her boyfriend/lover/Joe Dimaggio... These are all shots in the right direction. Plus they are adding characters who can sing, and doing three Broadway shows instead of just one. Broader canvas. So we'll see if it works. At the very least it will have more musical numbers...which admittedly was the only reason I was watching it. Along with my weakness for wonky supernatural soap operas, I also have a weakness for wonky musicals.

Okay off. Trying to de-stress this weekend. To calm down. Work has me tied up in knots of frustration and stress. I need to find another way of getting rid of stress...I know exercise is the best approach but right now, sort of difficult to pull off. Not a fan of gyms (stress me out) or for that matter yoga (which also stresses me out - there's a facebook cartoon of The Tinman getting frustrated doing Yoga, yep, I can identify.) So maybe water-coloring again or artwork? A bit cool to take long walks. Not to mention incredibly dark. I do it during lunch and it does help. May arrange for a massage next weekend, not sure yet. Do need a haircut.
