Oh shoot, where did all these clouds pop in from? It started out as a clear blue day. Granted a wee bit colder than I'd like, but sunny - so had hope. And pristine. Now it's overcast with lots of rain clouds moving in. And the sun appears to have disappeared.

Weather/Mother Nature - 10, Humans - 0. What's new.

In other news, I found out today that my niece and sisinlaw has been sending me lots of cards over the last couple of years, but they ALWAYS get sent back. It would be one thing if I didn't get mail. But I do. Or if they were sending the cards to the wrong address, but she insists they've been sending them to the correct one. So..this is just weird considering I do receive mail from literally everyone else - including lots and lots of junk mail. Would much rather receive cards from my niece, who I adore.

Starting to wonder about the US Postal Service. There's a reason it's losing money, it's become grossly inefficient.

1. Saw Elementary - but still way behind everyone else. This happens with DVR-ing tv shows - I save up to about five-six episodes, and finally realize, okay, you either should watch these episodes or delete them. That's what happened last weekend with The Walking Dead. I am so far behind that in attempting to discuss the two episodes that I just watched, with my mother - she was confused. And thought she hadn't seen it. No she had, just didn't remember it.
eh spoilers for the episodes shown in January... )

2. Mileage varies. Occasionally things bewilder me. Oddly it never bewildered me that people loved Buffy/Angel or Bangle - I understood that (well up until the comics at any rate, people who liked the relationship in the comics (post the Twilight reveal - the villain in the comics, not to be confused with the Stephanie Meyer series of the same name (which I am willing to bet money was NOT a coincidence on the comic book writers part) - do bewilder me, and some of them seem to be ahem... batshit crazy? But then so does the comic book fandom...so the less said on that topic the better.)

* Apparently Whingina Regina from Once Upon a Time is stealing the show and a fan/critical EW favorite? I don't understand this. She's so campy and one-dimensional. I keep expecting her to twirl her moustache, and cackle fiendishly. Rumplestilskin - yes, I get why people love him, same with Hook, and various other characters. But Whiny Regina who preens?

* Also Gone Girl is insanely popular. As are similar books. I'm half-tempted to borrow it from a library to see what all the fuss is about. I refuse to buy it, for the same reasons I refuse to buy the Twilight novels. And other people, I'm guessing, refuse to buy 50 Shades of Grey. It's the principle of the thing. ;-) (And well the fact that I grew to despise the writer when she wrote for EW - a Roger Ebert - she wasn't. EW isn't exactly known for its stellar writing staff. The was Premier...which I miss.)

Maybe I should just try a sample? Also is it just me or is our current culture obsessed with stories about irredeemably nasty people? What is up with that? Is it a sort of repressed sadistic urge or something? I constantly feel this need to wash my brain out with something light and fluffy.

4. Mad Men season premiere was plodding. The twists not all that twisty, and I found it rather dull at different points. The best bits were either about Peggy or John Slattery's character.

1. The Warehouse 13 episode written by Drew Z. Greenberg, and guest-starring James Marsters, Polly Walker, Lindsey Wagner, Roger Rees and Kate Mulgrew - can be found here:

http://www.syfy.com/videos/Warehouse%2013/vid:2639240

It's campy as all get-out, seriously it is Syfy what do you expect? But the guest stars made me blink. Also, none of them have aged well...somewhat reassuring that. Plus, Marsters keeps playing versions of the same role over and over, with few exceptions. The exceptions aren't as good. I've decided over time that Marsters is a bit like Dusku- a one trick pony, albeit a better talented one. He reminds me at times of Anthony Geary who played Luke on General Hospital. Plays similar roles.

Trying to place Polly Walker - where have I seen her before? Warehouse 13 was co-created by Jane Espenson of all people. But it reminds me a great deal of the old 1990s anthology series - Friday the 13th - where a team of researchers hunts down dangerous relics. Except this version is less scary and more campy than that one was.

2. Doctor Who....the Cold War

Eh, more entertaining than last week, although that isn't hard. Was quite amusing in places actually...particularly liked the Doctor and Clara's entrance onto the submarine, which had apparently spun a nasty leak.

eh spoilers )

3. Smash - it's a shame, just as SMASH is beginning to get entertaining, it'll be cancelled. I actually like it better than anything else on NBC. Wait, am I watching anything else on NBC? No not really. Was watching Revolution for a bit, but grew tired of it - none of the characters really grabbed me, I liked SMASH better. And as you already know, I couldn't make it through the first two episodes of Grimm, without wandering off. It may have gotten better, but I didn't hang around to find out.

My favorite bits were actually Derek and Ivy, those two characters fascinate me. Everyone else...is okay.
