Apr. 30th, 2013 06:52 pmSomeday, not today, I'm going to have to figure a way to wean myself off of doing lj postings. I don't really consider blogging similar to keeping a journal (journaling), if anything it reminds me of letter writing. I used to write letters a lot. Really long letters. To everyone. About movies, books, tv shows, the weather, work, my thoughts. And basically they weren't all that different from my lj postings. Also I had pen-pals from around the world as a kid, because I loved writing and reading letters. (Prefer it to talking on the phone actually - hello, introvert).
LJ is more fun for several reasons: 1) you can write a letter to 2 million people at the same time, 2) it's faster, 3) you get instant responses or responses far quicker, 4) you can read other people's correspondence without them knowing you are reading it (although they can do the same thing with you - that is admittedly not such a great thing) and 5) You can respond to other correspondence that is not directly related to you. I call my flist - my correspondence list, and lj, my correspondence club. Actually, I called ATPO meetups to the uninitiated, meetups of my online correspondence club. Because, basically this is what this is - correspondence. With all the hang-ups and misfires that entails. What, you think I never received nasty letters back in they day? Please. If you are opinionated, somewhat snarky, emotional writer, who thinks nothing of speaking her mind - it's a sort of given. There's something to be said for achingly polite letter writers...
At any rate, I'm addicted to writing letters. I think I like letter writing more than any other type of writing. Maybe I should try to write a book in that style? It's admittedly what intrigued me about 50 Shades of Grey, and why I found Les Liasons Dangereuax, Clarissa, Dracula, and Pride & Prejudice fascinating. They are all stories that use letter writing, text messaging or written correspondence to communicate and further character arcs.
Beautiful day. Allergies are in full bloom. I've got a lot to say. But this post is too long as it is.
