1. The snow storm aka Titan may not be as bad as originally predicted. At work - they forecast 27 inches. Then it was 6-12. Now it appears to be 2-4. Apparently the west coast and midwest will receive the full brunt of it...and it will dissipiate a bit by the time it gets here.

Yay. I have a regular doctor's appointment at 5:30 pm tomorrow - full physical - and in Manhattan. Plus work in Jamaica (Queens NY). Do not need crazy snow storm. Only enjoy crazy snow storms - when they happen on days that I do not have to go anywhere.

2. Oscar predictions.

First: A few caveats...1)I stopped caring who won the Oscars about ten years ago, when Titantic won. Actually before that with Gandhi. Some truly lackluster films have won oscars over the years. 2) It's political. 3)It's wildly subjective. 4)And ultimately meaningless. Seriously, can you remember who won last year? I can't. I can't even remember who was nominated. Nor can I remember who won over the past five - ten years. See? Meaningless.

5) And.. I agree with what Woody Allen has said about awards shows:

I watch it for the Entertainment Value, no other reason.

The other caveat? I've only seen maybe three films that have been nominated. Philomena, American Hustle, and Blue Jasmine. And I think only Blue Jasmine will win anything, even though I preferred and enjoyed the other two films more - they spoke to me. Blue Jasmine not so much.

Here are my predictions:

* Best Movie? 12 Years a Slave

* Best Actor? Probably Matthew McConaughy for Dallas Buyers Club. (Bruce Dern (Nebraska)isn't liked in Hollywood and the Oscars are very political.) Outside chance - the actor who starred in 12 Years a Slave.

* Best Actress? Cate Blanchett - Blue Jasmine

* Best Supporting Actor? Jared Leto -Dallas Buyers Club (long shot - actor from Captain Phillips).

*Best Supporting Actress? The actress from 12 Years a Slave

* Best special effects: Gravity

*Best cinematography: Gravity

*Best Director: either Alfonse Curaro (Gravity) or Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave) - I'm thinking Gravity, due to the political factor. Or we'll get someone else. Can't see David O Russell getting it for American Hustle. Normally they like to give best director and best film to the same movie, if at all possible.

I don't know about the others...I'd give a soundtrack award to American Hustle, but I admittedly haven't seen anything else.

*Best Original Screenplay? eh...no clue.

*Best Adapted Screenplay? Either 12 Years a Slave or Philomena. (assuming they were nominated, can't remember.)

I think American Hustle, Captain Phillips, and possibly Philomena will be shut out. Hustle might get either costume design or makeup.

* Best song - the one from Frozen, which I can't remember the name of. (The Lego movie didn't come out until this year so was not nominated).

* Best Animated film? Frozen

We'll see if I'm right. Again, I watch for the entertainment value. ;-)
