1. Having read the article regarding the round-up of cancelled and renewed tv shows...and shows still in limbo (via my flist), I thought, okay, most of the shows I'm watching on Broadcast television are being renewed. There's only one or two that aren't or may not be.

TV Shows that I'm watching or DVRing that have been renewed: Read more... )

Shows that are in limbo that I watch:Read more... )

Shows that I watched which were cancelled:Read more... )

2. My friend embers_log who passed away last year is haunting me. I go on Good Reads - and see her recs. Right now she has recommended the Iron Seas - Steampunk Urban Fantasy Series.

Starting with The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook - her favorite was the third book in the series. This one may have turned her off because the hero is your typical control freak alpha male hero type that plagues appears in most boddice rippers historical romance novels. Embers hated alpha male hero types. The heroine however is kick-ass. (See here's the thing, I don't mind control freak/alpha male hero types as long as your heroine is kick-ass or bad-ass, with the ability to knock the alpha male hero down a few pegs. Or I'm gone. If she's weak and kittenish, then that's just an uneven playing field, and I get annoyed. I'm somewhat the same way about weak and kittenish male heroes and kickass female heroines - I need the two characters to be equals or it won't work for me.) It may be a good series to jump to - since it is very different than the series I just completed, yet more or less within the same trope, and with an extremely strong female lead, an inspector. The Iron Seas series feature nanoagents, mechanical arms, sea monsters, and zombies. The heroine has fought zombies. Which may be why embers adored it - she adores zombie books. Actually so does CW. This undying love of zombies has always bewildered me. They are gross. But oh well. It is a book. Gross in books - I can deal with, you can skip over the passage. Gross in movies and tv shows? Not so much.

Embers' presence is also in various places in my apartment, I have books that she gave me and artwork. When people leave us, they leave a part of themselves behind - I think. Whether it be our memories of them or some work of art. Strange as it may sound...I believe they are always with us even if we can't see them or talk to them.

3. Been sleeping poorly lately, hope to sleep better tonight. This may not aid that.
It's made me feel a bit strung out. Anyhow...pop culture things I'm looking forward to?

* Star Wars - the next chapter, with Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamil, with Ford's Han Solo wisely as one of the leads. (He's the strongest of the three actors). Apparently Ford has mellowed towards the role, or maybe he thinks the character is more interesting now than he was over 20 years ago? Ford is the same age as my mother. 71.

* Guardians of the Galaxy - come on, we have a bad-ass racoon. I'm willing to see it for the bad-ass racoon. It reminds me a little bit of Farscape.

* X-Men Days of Future Past - which was amongst my favorite comic serials way back when. It's a good thing I can't remember it and gave my comics away several years ago. Has a great cast: Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Ian McKellan/Fastbender (Magneto), Patrick Stewart/James McAvoy (Prof X), Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Halle Berry (Storm) ,Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde), and Peter Dinklage (Trask).

* Magic Breaks - the latest and longest of the Kate Daniels novels (400 pages), debuts on July 24th. It's supposed to be game-changer or completion of an arc, while starting a brand new one.

* Skin Game - the latest in the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher

* Defiance - Syfy series starts up again

* Orange is the New Black and The Masters of Sex and Treme on netflix

* Binge Watching Orphan Black S2 (I've remained unspoiled and am saving the episodes to binge watch them)

From just about everybody, but I swiped [livejournal.com profile] ponygirl2000

Everyone should post their ten most CRUCIAL CRUCIAL CRUCIAL-ASS movies, like the movies that explain everything about yourselves in your current incarnations (not necessarily your ten favorite movies but the ten movies that you, as a person existing currently, feel would help people get to know you) (they can change later on obviously). ( Actually I think books or tv series might work better for me on this, but..I'll do movies. Also, it reminds me of a quote or something in Milan Kundera's Unbearable Lightness of Being - where one of the characters muses that sharing the same musical history is crucial to a relationship or at least understanding it.)

This was interesting, I narrowed it down by focusing on movies that were both personally meaningful and ones that I have no problem watching multiple times:

1.Lawrence of Arabia
2.Heathers
3.Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
4.Gross Point Blank (what I think of class reunions in a nutshell)
5.Spirited Away
6.Blade Runner
7.The Wizard of OZ
8.Raiders of the Lost Arc
9.It's a Wonderful Life
10. Aliens

For special consideration: Meet me in St. Louis, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Man From Snowy River, and My Brilliant Career.

[I added books and tv shows, because I think they work better in a way.]
Books :

1.Ulysses by James Joyce
2.The Sparrow by Maria Doria Russel
3.The Secret History by Donna Tartt
4.The Kate Daniels series by Illona Andrews
5.The Scarlett Pimpernel by Baroness Orzy
6. Dorothy Parker's poems
7.The Westing Game by Ellen Ranskin
8.My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George
9.The Snow Queen by both Hans Christian Anderson and Joan D. Vinge
10.The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Added: The Perilous Guard by Elizabeth Marie Pope

TV Series

1.Buffy the Vampire Series (specifically Seasons 4-7)
2.Angel the Series (only Season 4 and 5 - equally good depiction of work related issues)
3.Farscape
4.The Wire (specifically S2-5 - perfect depiction of work issues)
5.Veronica Mars
6. Battle Star Galatica (v1 and v2)
7.The Good Wife
8.Once Upon a Time
9. Star Trek the Next Generation
10. The West Wing

Added: Parenthood
