Guardians of the Galaxy
Aug. 10th, 2014 05:49 pmLovely day, and a lovely weekend. There's also supposed to be an extra large moon tonight.
Just got back from seeing Guardians of the Galaxy - which I enjoyed tremendously. Loved it - best Marvel comic book movie hands down, or by far the most enjoyable, possibly because it's not a super-hero flick but a space-adventure flick with a bunch of unconventional heroes. (I admittedly got bored during the Avengers). And you don't need to be familiar with the comics to follow it - I'm not familiar with them and followed it fine.
It reminded me a great deal of Farscape, except the lead character is a bit more complicated. He's a thief, and his father is a celestial. Also, his mom gave him awesome mixed tapes of popular songs from her youth.
Each character is rather interesting and I want to know more. Although, like most Marvel superhero/action flicks - it's not great with the female characters. They need to remedy that. Aeryn Sun is more interesting than Zoe Saladana's Gamorra. Although Karen Gillian's Nebula did have potential. I rather like Gillian as an actress - she's definitely versatile.
Favorite characters? Groot and Rocket. Although I also liked Chris Pratt's witty Star Lord Peter Quill quite a bit.
It's about a bunch of low-rent outlaws who end up banding together to save the universe. Doesn't take itself too seriously, and is rather and unexpectedly heartwarming, also quite funny in places.
Did make me miss Farscape - and have the craziest desire to re-watch it.
