Jan. 8th, 2015 10:16 pmBrrr....I'm going to have to figure out a better method of winterizing the living room windows this weekend. My nose is cold. Methinks there is a draft in the living room. But the radiator is stirring to life, so perhaps...although my bedroom is very warm. I have the bedroom window open with a fan pointing outwards, but have covered the living room windows with plastic bags...so far just the tops. I know it sounds odd - but the bedroom looks out on an enclosed outdoor courtyard, while the living room and bathroom look out on the backyards of various buildings and is more exposed. Still better situated than last apartment, oddly enough.
On the TV front, trashy and otherwise....
* Revenge - This show frustrates me. I'm thisclose to calling it quits. But..there's people to discuss it with in my real life, so I'm hanging in there. They keep introducing bizarre villains who make no sense. As if they don't already have enough villains to choose from. Also, dear writers...stop teasing us, we know you aren't killing off either Victoria or Emily...seriously, we should be so lucky. Although I still like Emily...actually the only two characters I like are Emily and Nolan, even though Nolan has the worst taste in significant others.
* The Good Wife - still loving this series. It's become a wickedly accurate legal and political satire. Although I'm not certain you'd appreciate the legal satire if you aren't a lawyer or went to law school in the US. The satire in The Good Wife reminds me a great deal of the satire in The Wire - it's subtle and rather on point. Both series poke fun at our, ahem, justice system and the horrific maze of inconsistent rules and procedures. The Carey Argos Arc did an excellent job of showing how an innocent person can be railroaded by the system. It's actually fairly accurate in places, which makes it all the more on target.
I honestly think this series is the funniest show on television - which probably gives you an idea of my rather dry sense of humor and explains why 98% of the comedies on tv sort of fall flat for me.
* General Hospital - continues to amuse me. It's gotten very convoluted and intricate in its plotting, and keeps doing outlandish things...which I did not see coming, mainly because they are outlandish and at times defy logic. But I like the characters...which are rather complex and also rather convoluted and outlandish.
I mean, come on, half of them have either slept with each other or attempted to slaughter each other - often multiple times. Death in soap operas is never quite permanent. Or rather it depends on actor availability and whether the writers can figure out a creative way of bringing them back from the dead. Also, it is quite possible for someone to have slept with an entire family - cousin, mother-in-law, wife, and best friend. There's nothing more incestuous than a soap opera.
Spent the day editing and revising - an Request for Proposal, a Technical Statement of Work, and my novel. Finished the first two, about 2/3rds of the way through on the third. I don't mind editing - except for commas. Commas, semicolons, colons, and hyphens make me crazy. The rules aren't consistent. I go for clarity, which may not be the best approach. Also style, tone and narrative voice - all of which I happen to obsessed with. In short I can drive myself crazy editing. Yet, since I pretty much write for a living, I do a lot of editing. Some people breath, I write.
