shadowkat: (doing time)
So, I joined The Library Thing - another social media group devoted to books. And I found my book on it (it was already there so I didn't have to add it, yay!) and linked myself as the author.

In addition, I've set up a book/writing blog entitled The Outrider Chronicles. (Doing Time was already taken). Haven't written a post on it yet. Will hopefully get to that within the next day or two. Trying to do this author promotional thing. Am somewhat frustrated with it.

Regarding The Wed Reading Meme -- I'm in a bit of a reading slump, and have been re-reading the Illona Andrews Kate Daniels series. Which has basically ruined me where urban fantasy is concerned. She's not a great writer, but she is to date the best that I've read in the urban fantasy genre. (Granted I've only read a handful, and most nothing to sneeze at. Actually, Jim Butcher was the best of the bunch until I discovered Illona Andrews, who is the only urban fantasy writer who delves into Asian and Middle Eastern mythology. Also, has a rather twisted take on Judeo Christian. Or rather the most innovative take on that mythos which I've seen to date. And she does something interesting with vampires. They are empty minded monsters that human mages navigate. Think zombie but necromancers can manipulate them.) The dry and somewhat snarky sense of humor helps.

Mind refuses to focus on anything deeper. This, I suspect, is why people read pulpy genre novels? To escape. To not think. To be purely entertained.

Am almost finished with Marvel Agents of Shield --which continues to be mildly entertaining brain candy but my problem with it is that I'm rooting for the wrong people. I'm rooting for the Inhumans, who I find rather likable and interesting -- possibly my X-men comic book background? And can't abide the Agents of Shield, who still strike me as a somewhat fascist organization regardless of whose running it. Although, I found the conflict a bit contrived at the end of the second to last episode. Agent Carter is a much better written series. (And I think I'm ready for someone to kill off Grant Ward now, the character/actor is beginning to grate on my nerves.)
