1. Been avoiding the news for the most part of late. And for quite a while now. Do we really need to discuss why? The world has gone nuts.
This week I posted on twitter and facebook, "Stop the World, I want to get off." #Brexit #NRA #ORlando #Trump.
2016 is what I like to call a watershed year. Where the world shifts economically, politically, environmentally, etc. Big things happen. And the next year we deal with the fallout. There's been three major ones ...in the 21st Century.
* 2001 - 9/11, Wars Declared.
* 2008 - Obama wins the election, Stock Market Crash, Housing Market Crash
* 2016 - Brexit, Violence around the world,
They appear to happen in eight-year cycles for some reason. The year right after each one, my personal life turns upside down in good and bad ways.

What I just finished reading?
Nothing really. Same as last week. I read a couple of short stories by Patricia Briggs, then got tired of her writing style and world and stopped.
What I'm reading now?
Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire - who in some respects is a better writer than Briggs, or I just happen to like her writing style better. It flows better for me. Plus, there are likable female supporting characters. And the heroine isn't great at anything at the moment - a nice twist. Usually, the heroines are great at things. She's in a shit hole. What the heroine is skilled at is finding people or tracking them down. This got her into trouble. The book opens in 1995, October is tracking a man she suspects of kidnapping her client's kid and wife. October's engaged and has a little girl. She finds the alleged kidnapper in the San Francisco Botantical Gardens. And discovers he's hooked up with a nasty fae. They are both fae, and the heroine is half-fae or a changeling.
The alleged kidnapper turns October into a koi fish, and she ends up spending the next 14 years stuck in the pond swimming around. That's the prologue.
When we run into her again, she's no longer a PI, has distanced herself from all her fae ties, and is working the night shift at a Safeway.
The world and the character are a bit distinctive for urban fantasy. For one thing, there's no werewolves, vampires, or demons. It's just fae and creatures from fairy tales or the land of the fae.
So more fantasy than gothic horror. And, the lead is a lot older than your usual urban fantasy heroine. It's 2009 and she was born in 1958. That puts her somewhere in her late 50s, early 60s.
Even though she looks like she's thirty.
The last one was in her thirties. Usually, they are in their 20s, which I find grating. Why all these romantic heroines have to be between the ages of 16-28, I don't know. As a writer, I was always more interested in writing about people between the ages of 35-65. I even wrote that way when I was 17.
Anyhow...so far, it's interesting. The hero is drop-dead gorgeous, dangerous, and she thinks he hates her - - which is the trend in these books and explains why men don't tend to like them. Granted it is told in first person...so he may only be attractive to her.
Cool name though - Tybal - the King of Cats. He's Cait Fae.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workbook by Bob Stahl, Ph.D, Elisha Goldstein, Ph.D, John Kabat -Zin...
It's similar to the Power of Now, but a heck of a lot better written not to mention pragmatic.
The difficulty with self-help writers and philosophers is they suck at writing. And tend to write around the topic, hoping people will just get it. This book doesn't do that. It states what you can do, how it works, and provides examples and different tasks or practices.
I've been trying it and figuring a few things out. I eat less and better when I am mindful of what I'm eating and don't try to do it while I'm doing something else.
Also, I'm more creative when I'm not thinking.
What I'm reading next?
Don't know yet.
3. Sunny hot day. I'm staying in. Mainly to treat a sinus headache. Did take a walk this morning to whole body therapist/massage specialist and grocery store.
