Hmm...was going to go to church this morning, but, it is pouring and going involves walking about six-seven blocks in the rain. Plus subway wonkiness on the weekends. And I was there on Friday night.
CW once assumed that my joining a church meant I had become "religious", eh no. I have issues with organized religion -- it seems to divide people more than pull them together, ironic that, since it is supposed to do the opposite. Unitarian Universalism is admittedly not that organized nor that religious, but current ministerial staff is trying really hard to make it that way. And I'd prefer they laid back a bit. I liked the church I joined in 2010, this one, I've mixed feelings about. If I were to define myself -- I'd say I'm more spiritual than religious. (I ask too many questions for religion to take root. I believe in a source that unites us all, the oneness of things, that we need to be kind to each other and push past the trappings of egoism and materialism, and that at root we are energy beings inhabiting organic matter. The rest? I think was made up by scared people who wanted to control others and make themselves feel better.)

Anyhow...found this interesting article on my FB page, posted by an old social media friend from the Buffy Boards:

How Sociopathic Capitalism Came to Rule the World.

Rainy day. Actually an understatement. It's pouring non-stop, and banging against the a/c every five minutes. An onslaught of dripping, dinging, pinging water.

So, I rented Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on demand. Agree with the critics, vol #1 was better. But Vol #2 is still entertaining and I rather enjoyed it in places, even if some of the jokes felt a bit forced.

Now debating over Spiderman: Homecoming (which everyone who saw it, adored) or Logan (which everyone who saw it, adored.) Or Stranger Things on Netflix, but really not in the mood for it. Thinking of binging it next weekend when I have more time.

Sleepy. I wanted to dart out and get stuff for tomorrow's lunch, but alas will have to make do with what I have. And go to the store after work on either Monday or Tuesday.

Stuck on my writing, I keep making stabs at it, but it's not flowing. I don't know why. Meant to do some artwork, but feeling relatively lazy. Did, however, switch the summer clothes in the trunk and falls clothes out, finally.

Well, I've now seen both Logan and Guardians of the Galaxy, mainly because it has been pouring all day long and I have writer's block or a plot bunny that isn't resolving itself. And wanted a break from computers. Plus procrastinating.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 is a lot of fun, but you sort have to have seen the first movie to be able to follow it. Has a cameo by Sylvester Stallon and David Hasseloff, both of whom have aged slightly better than Kurt Russell. Okay Hasslehoff has and his was brief, so it may just have been CGI and not really him. Sly Stallon surprised me, he just keeps popping up in weird places. Did appreciate Michael Rooker's re-appearance as Quill's other father, who redeems himself here and also got a backstory.

Great soundtrack. And some odd jokes, not all of them worked. Tazer-Face just isn't that funny, I'm sorry. However other bits were rather humorous. And a little of Dax goes a long way. Groot basically stole the movie. The funniest bits featured Groot.

Rocky: "No, that's a desk. We told you it was this small, why did you bring a desk."

Rooker: "No, that's my underwear."
Rocky: "I don't think he understood what you meant."

Rooker: "No that's his eye, he takes it out when he's sleeping."
Rocky: "Go back try again, but leave the eye."
Rooker: "Why?"
Rocky: "Because when he wakes up and can't find it..."

Logan -- feels like The X-men's take on Mad Max films, circa the US. And oh, look, it's our old friends the Reavers. I honestly think Whedon borrowed these villains from the X-men for Firefly.
They are horrible. Took me a while to figure out who they were or remember. Mainly because I'd forgotten about them.

It's good, in that it is better than most comic book movies, but, I found it overly violent and somewhat nihilistic. The character of Lara and how she's created was taken from the comics, and the death of Logan is also to a degree from the comics -- he lost his healing factor in the comics too. I didn't read the arc, so can't comment beyond that. I like Jackman's take on Logan, even though I feel the character has been overdone. This is the last film he'll be in, and Jackman's last time playing him.

Very similar to Mad Max in places -- desert landscape, lone wolf character with two disabled friends that he loses, while helping a kid who is technically his or might as well be escape to a safe haven, that he doesn't quite believe exists. Plus there's a bunch of kids who are waiting for this one, which he helps, after they help him -- finally sacrificing himself to see them defeat the evil people chasing them.

If you have watched any of the Mad Max films, you've seen it before. It's good, but nothing to go out of your way for.
