Sigh. Facebook is all about the Florida Shooting. Significant for the following reasons: it's the 18th school shooting this year alone. And we're not even through February yet. !7 people were shot.
And the community had previously been cited as a safe one. And the same gun was used in it as the others an AR-15. My father told my mother that it was the same rifle he used in the military.

They are planning a National School Walkout for all High Schools. I'm thinking it should be all schools around the country, then some woman from my church suggested a work walkout. Seriously? When people suggest this -- I know three things, 1) they work for a non-profit or an organization with like-minded souls who will do it with them, 2) they aren't essential - so no one is going to care that much, 3) they aren't worried about employment or losing their job. In short, they do not work for a hospital, a doctor, the MTA, airlines, fire stations, the police, etc. Also it's frigging easy to suggest a work walkout when you don't have to worry about certain things.

Now, a school walkout has less serious repercussions. (No one is going to die if you decide not to go to school for one day. Nor be prevented from traveling to a much needed appointment or emergency.)

On a rainy (allegedly snowy but it's in the 30s and 40s) and hasn't done anything yet, I've been writing this story about a female veteran who worked on the bomb squad in Iraq. It's a second chance at love contemporary romance -- with a heavy emphasis on PTSD. Also been watching television sporadically, first the men's figure skating finals, which annoyingly cut off two of the free skate performances. Frigging NBC. Then the female aerial skiing championships. And now, The Long Kiss Goodnight on Youtube of all places. It's not a great copy, and has subtitles (which are annoying) but it serves my itch, such as it is.

Not reading much -- mainly because I find the story I'm writing more engrossing than anything I've read lately. I don't know why other people write, I write because I have an itch for a story and can't find it -- so I have to write the dang thing myself.

Taking a break, sort of. Also, Black Panther...that movie keeps playing with my head. It's got to be the best action film I've seen in the past few years. And certainly has the best female roles in it -- actually the women are the most surprising and best things in it. That's what surprised me. I went into it ambivalent, to be honest. I really didn't think it was going to be that good. Now, I want to see it again.

Also, while there have been POC action superhero films and action movies in the past -- nothing like this. Nor anything with so many strong and powerful POC female roles. Makes me want to revise my superhero franchise list.
