1. trying to contribute to fandom needy stocking, failing miserably )

2. Loving "Essex Serpent" at the moment. It's so calming and comforting in the oddest way. Also enjoying X-Men Dissembled.

The Good Reads reviewers are split on it -- between those who were mislead into thinking they got a Victorian Fantasy/Gothic Thriller - it's not that, and those who were relieved to find it to be a cool, character driven literary novel with philosophical chats.

I will state that if someone hadn't told me that it took place during the late 1800s, I'd have placed it sometime in the 20th Century. (Although not because of how the people spoke, but what they spoke about and behaved...and the general description of the setting, which had a feel of post-Industrial Britain, in the early 1900s just after Queen Victoria's reign.) Not that that is a problem for me -- because I despise Victorian writing and the Victorian Period in general.

Oh well. Off to bed. Hopefully it won't snow too heavily or rain too much tomorrow. I'm hoping the storm swings far north and misses us completely. Of course that wouldn't be nice to my northern neighbors, so just disappears entirely?
