Jul. 26th, 2019 06:31 pm1. There are people who adore the movie musical "Moulin Rouge", which has become a Broadway Show -- now with modern tunes.
I saw it in the movie theater. And this is how I described it to people.
"It's akin to being stuck in an elevator, a very small elevator, with a traveling Mariachi Band for two hours."
The blasted thing gave me a migraine headache.
I honestly never understood the appeal of it. Neither did the writer of the article linked above apparently.
2. Read scans daily...and apparently they are mindwiping characters in comics (that I haven't been following). Captain America -- mindwiped by the Illuminati? Batman mindwiped by the JLA? (Why would the JLA mindwipe Batman? Oh wait, never mind. I can think of many reasons...) And Peter Parker mindwiping his friends...of their memories that he's Spiderman (okay when did he get that ability? Is this a new power or something?)
They were funny though -- they thought the term "mindwipe" first arose from Brad Meltzer's Identity Crisis (which didn't work for me, I do not like Meltzer at all).
But no...it actually was used by the Buffy fandom and in a derogatory way prior to that..
poster: are you sure that "mindwipe" that exact term was used?
Me: Yes. It was used in relation to Willow "mindwiping" her lover Tara (in S6).
(The other term was mind-rape, but this one was used as well.)
3. It's Friday, very happy. I'll sleep in tomorrow and schlep off to meet Wales to see Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. (Tarantino's next movie is apparently going to be a Star Trek film, so...)
Chidi is also seeing it this weekend. He asked me if I was buying the tickets ahead of time. Uh, no. I've learned the hard way not to do that with Wales.
More than once, she's cancelled on me at the last minute. Or blown me off. And isn't great at paying people back.
So we'll see if we see the movie on Saturday. I'm ambivalent. The movies I really cared about seeing in a theater -- I've seen. Everything else, eh...it's just to be social.
Although, I may take myself to Hobbs & Shaw, not for the two male leads, but for Vanessa Kirby (who played Princess Margaret on the Crown) and I adore to pieces. She's the best thing in the trailers next to Idris Elba. Also there's good banter.
