Day #12 of the 30 Day Music Meme- a song from your preteen years. I'm not sure if this is meant to be a song that I listened to a lot, or had been recorded back then. I listened to a lot of music back then, everything from Helen Reddy to ABBA to the Carpenters, to well...The Monkeeys. Also there were Disney Movie Soundtrack Records, Musical Recordings, and all of my parents, Folk, Jazz, Classical records.

But at that time, I remember being in love with The Monkeeys, who my Dad liked to call a poor man's Beatles. And my favorite was...Davy Jones. My best friend and I, at the time, were in love with him. And made a point of seeing his appearance on the Brady Bunch, where he sung our favorite song..

Here he is singing it on the television episode of the Monkeeys in which it premiered.

The song was written by John Stewart for The Monkeeys. It premiered the year I was born in 1967. (So I'm going to have to find something else for that song category - aren't I? ) But I heard it on The Monkeeys, when it aired on Saturday morning in reruns, and sang it with my friends in 1974.

So it was from my preteen years, one way or another. Also it kind of shows, my memory of songs is very visual. I remember the song, because I saw it on a television show and had a crush on the singer.

While other states are busy playing political footsie with Trump, *cough*pretty much the entire southern and midwestern US*cough*, New York is putting everything it has towards fighting the damn virus and keeping everyone chug-chug-chugging along.

New York State is investing in innovative methods to detect and control any new Coronavirus outbreaks. Today, we are launching a pilot program to detect the presence of COVID-19 in wastewater. In doing so, we will have an early indicator system to detect virus spread in communities. Wastewater testing has been identified by top scientists and researchers as a cost-effective way to monitor for outbreaks of COVID-19 around the world.

The State will provide $500,000 to support a wastewater sampling project in Onondaga County and start sample collection in Albany, Newburgh and Buffalo. This new initiative will complement our leading testing program, which is now up to 87,000 tests a day (3-day average) and that provides a daily snapshot of the estimated infection rate of the virus by region across the state. We know that when we follow the science we win the fight against this virus. The more data we have, and the more points of detection, the better able we are to stop the spread.

I wasn't kidding about NY being test happy. Read more... )

When New York was in need, individuals from 44 states (and in territories as far as Guam) and from 12+ foreign countries mailed over 8,000 masks to my office. It's that unity and solidarity that our nation must keep up in order to beat this virus.

Hopeful. Always hopeful.

The rest..

I'm not doing much today besides watching television, sleeping, playing on the laptop. You'd think I'd want a day off from it - I'm on it all week long. Well - that will most likely be Monday - when I have no electricity.

Crazy Company vs. the Corona Virus

I got a message from our occupational safety department regarding neck gaiters - they are investigating to see if the gaiters are unsafe. And advise that people wearing them - fold them over twice so it's a thicker layering, and don't use them if they have to talk to anyone in person. (I kind of figured that out early on - they are too thin to be highly effective, I have one per my cousin's suggestion - the same cousin who got COVID.) My parents were given them - and I convinced my brother to send them the blue medical masks.

Meanwhile they are still putting together the video collage to say goodbye to Lando, I appear to be, ironically, doing the best at responding to it.

1. I binge-watched four more episodes of Halt Catch Fire tonight, so I'm about seven episodes into S1, with three left to go. Shipping Cameron/Joe hard, although I know they don't end up together and can't possibly - because both are too damaged in different ways.

Gordon, I still want to smack upside the head. I really feel sorry for his wife.

The series has two very strong female roles at the center of it - and the women really are the brains, and the most stable characters in the series. The men are train wrecks. It also does an excellent job of showing how a toxic and entitled male corporate culture is toxic to everyone within it.

Guest appearances by the actor who played Robin Wood in Buffy, and the actor who played the lawyer boy-friend of Rebecca Bunch in Crazy-Ex Girlfriend.

It's very good, and weirdly comforting right now. It's just not associated with anything. And there's no mention of well the terrorist in the white house.

2. Working my way through a few audio books, also have discovered a fantasy novel that I might be able to read, that I can't remember the name of.

3. If you are interested, and no reason why you should be...the NY Times has gathered all the info you need or would want on the Coronavirus. Updates and everything you need to know on the Coronavirus Outbreak.

I check it and the Johns Hopkins University Medical Center's COVID MAP OF DOOM daily.

Yes, it may be evidence of a slight OCD tendency in my nature.

4. 5 South Texas Communities Have the Highest Known Infection Rates.

5. Some people have quarantine envy, I have vacation envy.
