Day #329 - Busy or Busier than usual
Feb. 11th, 2021 08:04 pmI got more work assigned to me!
And the virus is in a decline. ( Read more... )
So, I'm busy again at work. Also distracted - the Whedon thing was distracting me. I kept responding to emails notifications on DW, and to the FB discussion on Whedon Studies (who doesn't quite know how to handle it.) Truth is I think most of us have kind of moved on? Also, to be honest, the only work of Whedon's I truly loved with fannish devotion was Buffy. Everything else, I had issues with. And Whedon himself - I always had issues with, I'll admit that - and I was a fan who loved the show more than those who created it.
Don't know.
Oh, James Marsters, 58, filed for divorce from his wife, 34 after 10 years of marriage. Guessing the pandemic killed that marriage. The pandemic has been killing a lot of marriages lately. There's nothing like being quarantined together for a year to test the strength of a marriage or a relationship - any relationship. Most people don't spend THAT much time together. I suppose, in a way, I'm lucky - I'm in lock-down with just myself, we get along quite splendidly actually. It does help if you get along well with the individual you are locked down with and enjoy the same things. I think the only argument we've had to date - is whether I should have another gluten free iced cupcake at lunch time.
Another picture from yesterday's field trip.

The Impeachment Hearing is still raging on-wards.
What's amusing me, however, is it keeps preempting my soap opera, General Hospital - which keeps pushing back its episodes to the next day. ( Read more... )
Jon Favearu (show runner of the Mandalorian and the director behind Iron Man, along with one of the actors in the Iron Man series, who's very liberal) posted on Twitter..."Wow, I didn't realize that they had filmed footage of the rioters screaming Trumps tweets as they marched."
I tweeted back, because I couldn't help myself: "The rioters film themselves doing it. And then they posted it to youtube." [ They were doing it for posterity. And yes, that's actually what happened. This is why satire is dead, they've out satirized themselves.]
Meanwhile, speaking of the Mandalorian? Remember that cool female mercenary character? Lucasfilm fired Gina Carano from the Mandalorian for her incendiary tweet
What happened? [I told my mother about this, and she found it odd enough to tell my brother.]
Me: Remember that female mercernary on the Mandalorian?
Mother: Yes...kind of. I just watched an episode last night.
Me: Well, they fired her for tweeting that the Democrats were treating the conservatives and Trump supporters the same way that Jews had been treated in the Holocaust.
Mother: WHAT? That's just...that's absurd. That's ridiculous. If anything it is the exact opposite. Is she an idiot?
ME: Well, yeah, she got fired.
Mother: How do people come up with these things? I mean Trump is the epitome of fascism, how can't she see that?
I truly worry about some people's sanity. As does my poor mother.
It's a shame - I really liked the character and how she portrayed it. Should she have been fired? Well, yeah - freedom of speech only extends so far. Also, Disney is very image conscious. People keep getting themselves into trouble on social media. Armie Hammer did. Ingo (the actor who played Jax) did. People remember if posting on Twitter, particularly if you are famous and posting under your full real name - is akin to posting a billboard in the middle of Times Square. You'd think these idiots would have figured that out by now. Apparently not. She deleted her tweet - but alas it got copied and retweeted.
In regards to the impeachment hearing? We got a problem and it is called the Greedy Old Prick Party. ( Read more... )
This is a fancy air purifier that has been put in the bathroom at crazy workplace now.
( fancy air purifier )
Oh well, when pandemic is over - at least crazy workplace will be insanely clean, so too will all the trains and subways and stations. Seriously after 20 some years in NYC, I've not seen them that clean in my life.
Also the guy that I accidentally friended on FB, is attempting to clean up Brooklyn. (Wish he could get rid of the crazy alt-right conservatives in South Brooklyn, but alas, not happening.)
Spot of good news regarding pandemic: the virus is in a decline in the US. The combination of vaccines, number of people who've had it, social distancing, and masks has helped. Or so we think. NY is back to 3.98% for the first time since November.
Also NY is opening up a host of mass vaccination sites with the Federal Government's assistance.
And..per the Times...(I've a subscription to the Times)
( Dr. Fauci states we should have everyone vaccinated by mid-late summer )
"Will we have enough vaccine doses to meet Dr. Fauci’s timeline?"
( we have about 200 million vaccines with more on the way from Johnson and Johnson )
I've gotten emails from my doctor's office on how to access medical eligibility records for those with high risk issues after the 15th. If I want to get an appointment via the NY State Web site on my own.
I still think I'll probably get it sometime between March and April. I've a doctor's appointment scheduled for March 10.
And a final photo from yesterday's work field trip...this is of the new rainbow entrance at Jamaica Train Station. It's the new entrance and platforms for the Brooklyn and Penn Station Trains.

I had a food order due today from Imperfect Foods - which is a sustainable food source that sells foods that are in excess. It's also cheaper than most places. I save money, and help the environment.
But it is delayed until tomorrow. I was beginning to wonder about it. I checked twice while doing laundry. But na-da. (Actually was glad it didn't show up while doing laundry.) Then got a notice that it might show up at 10:16pm and I thought, ugh. No. And right after that - an email stating they were delaying it until tomorrow. It was on its way but had nine stops. So delaying until tomorrow makes sense.
Laundry was a pleasant experience. ( Read more... )
Oh, and while I did the field trip and all day today - I listened to JAZZ on my iphone. It's the Essential Jazz Collection on Apple Music. Wonderful. Very calming. ( Read more... )
