Day #356 - Laundry Day and Back to Work
Mar. 11th, 2021 09:54 pmWork was kind of frustrating. And I'm irritable - possibly due to not sleeping that well the last two nights. Eating the wrong things. Doctor's appointment, and being frustrated about the parental situation.
I am however excited for my niece ( and terrified). The only advice on this situation with niece - that I want is from British friends who live in the UK, are familiar with the London School of Economics, and can provide reassurance. Positive thoughts folks.
I don't want this:
Uncle S: I think I know where you are coming from. Why the London School of Economics? What do they know that we don't?
Me: Actually I don't think you do know where I'm coming from. Someone dear to me has gotten accepted into the London School of Economics, and I want information from my knowledgable British friends. I'm not comparing the school to US schools.
[I only posted this on FB, because I was hoping Narmada, and my British pals would see it. Instead I got a pesky family member - whose opinion, I was not interested in. Apparently mother told her sister about it, and her sister told her husband, and they looked at each other and wondered why niece didn't apply to Harvard or Yale or a US school. I know why - niece is tired of US and wants out. I don't blame her, sometimes I want out. The US has more SSAS per capita than anywhere else in the world..SSAS (Stupid Selfish Asshole Syndrom).
I should mention, as a kind of warning(?) that I'm extremely prejudiced against the US public educational system, actually it's worse than that - I've a chip on my shoulder regarding it, so does my brother, and my sister-in-law. This is something the three of us have in common - we don't agree on a lot, but we agree on that. Don't argue with someone who has a chip on their shoulder. There's a reason for that chip - and unless you are intimately familiar with said reason - a land mine lies ahead. Multiple ones. If someone feels strongly about something - stay away from that topic. You aren't going to change their mind on social media - raise their blood pressure maybe, but not change their mind.]
I'm very proud of niece. She continues to surprise me in every way. Hence all the bragging about her in this journal. (I don't have a kid, a cat, a dog, a house, or a spouse - I got to brag about something.)
Laundry
No one in the laundry room except for the Super's wife and her child. We met in passing. And someone dropping off recyclables.
I did my sheets, mattress pad, duvet cover, towels and other items. Only to discover that I'd left out a pair of underwear, a bra, and socks out. Oh well, that stayed in the laundry bag for next week or the week after.
Thursdays is turning out to be a good time to do laundry for the most part - particularly after 3:30 pm.
I dread going back to the office. Because when I work from home - I can go drop it off around three, come back and finish work. If I commute to work - I can't do that until 5:00-5:30. And often run into people at that time.
What took forever - was putting my new weighted comforter (that I bought for my birthday) into the duvet cover. It was ridiculously difficult. I got a massive headache halfway through.
New York Vs. the CoronaVirus
Back to our on-going and seemingly endless battle. There have been a few plot-twists.
Apparently the vaccine may make it possible for NYC to re-open. ( Read more... )
Mother got excited and suggested I got to my niece's graduation. ( Read more... )
Anyhow, the Mayor and the Governor are fighting over how fast things should be re-opened. The Mayor wants to slow it down, the Governor wants to speed it up. Actually the Governor isn't speaking to the Mayor at the moment, because the Mayor keeps talking about how the Governor should resign.
The Governor is in trouble, a sixth person came out. ( Read more... )
But, on the bright side, in the midst of all this? We have more vaccines. So NY is nearing herd immunity between the vaccines and the number of folks with COVID, so too is the US. About 30% of the US has had COVID now. And we're nearing that amount for the vaccine.
More vaccine sites. And they've expanded eligibility to 60 year olds. Also after the 17th, anyone who is a front-facing employee or considered essential. (I thought they'd already done that? IF not how in the heck did I get vaccinated?)
Learned for the second dose, I just show up - same place, same time as last dose. Basically same bat channel, same bat time.
And testing sites have sprouted up everywhere. NY now has, according to the Governor who likes to speak in hyperbole, the two biggest vaccine sites in the country. I wish the man was a tad less arrogant and egotistical.
Final plus? The stimulus package is bailing out the States. Which means we have money! Yay! Also Biden signed into law the Child Tax Credit - which will do away with child poverty! Or do for child poverty what Social Security did for the elderly. We undoing the SSAS laws of the Republican Party. Of course the Republicans really just are SSAS in disguise.
