Day #13 of year 2 of Pandemic nuttiness

Well, I'm feeling kind of better today or rather kind of numb, one or the other.

There was no more bad news - so that helped. It doesn't feel like Easter Week, but it never does. I'm not highly religious so that may be part of the reason. Mother is missing choir and thinks she'll never do it again. This is mother's current refrain: "I'll never ___, again" - it could be walk, sing in choir, visit people, live with father, what have you. My brother accussed her of always coming up with the worst case scenario. I told her that I agree with my brother - she does. Apparently his retort was in response to her reaction to niece taking up boxing. Mother decided niece could get a concussion.

Me: Well, she will be wearing protection.
Mother: Still could happen - could get jarred.
Me: She could get a concussion roller skating, riding her bike, skate-boarding...or..
Mother: Okay that's true, I got one walking outside my house
Me: And I got one sitting on the bleachers at my brother's baseball game.
Mother: That was not a concussion, we just thought you got one.

Apparently niece has a friend who boxes and is considering taking it up.
Niece isn't exactly muscular, and kind of wiry, but okay. I told mother that niece was bored - I don't blame her, I'm bored too. I told mother that I stopped following Hugh Jackman on Instagram because I was growing tired of watching he surf.

Mother: Surf? How does one surf on Instagram.
Me: As in waves...
Mother: Oh I thought surf the internet
Me: He has pictures of himself surfing, and at beaches
Mother: Where?
Me: I'm guessing Australia. Beautiful water, etc
Mother: And he looks amazing
Me: That too. I also stopped following Alyson Hannigan and various others. I don't want to see their lovely lives. All these celebrities who can do whatever they want..
Mother: Yes, they tons of money and go fly around and take off on nice vacations.
Me: I don't want to know about it. Tired of people gallivanting around. Wish they'd stay put. If I can stay put, they can stay put.

Sisinlaw apparently agrees with me, she was upset with the idiots spring breaking in Hawaii on Instagram. Apparently Hawaii has a problem, it only has 340 ICU beds, as opposed to say Florida's 64560 hospital beds. She had the stats and everything. Hawaii never got the infrastructure in place (honestly why would they? They are a tourist destination and focused on thing that make a profit, not things that don't.). I've noticed this as a problem across the board. Why put money in infrastructure and healthcare, when I can make millions off of resorts and entertainment ventures? Then along comes a pandemic...whoops.

So if you've just taken a great trip somewhere? Now is not the time to share it with folks on social media. Wait until 2022 or maybe 2023, then share it. Otherwise keep it to yourself.

The US is frustrating - because of Selfish nitwit syndrom - we are going to have a fourth wave. People just can't behave. We have too much freedoms in our country. Other countries were able to fully lock down, the US? Not so much. Hence the reason we have more deaths per capita than countries with bigger populations than we do.

Crazy Workplace

I finally, FINALLY, got my partial assignment agreement via our legal department. So, after half a year fighting with the legal department, we got what we wanted.

I'd explain more - but I'd just you and me both - a headache.

New York vs. the Corona Virus

People are being idiots so the case count is rising. Also we have only vaccinated about 26% of our population. I just did an interactive quiz in the NY Times - and my area - Kings County, NY is still considered high risk.

Kings has had maybe 23% vaccinated. And it has a lot of cases still. Also maskless wonders wandering about.

Ugh. Enuf.

Pop Culture

Lots of new Star Wars shows popping up on Disney +, including an Obi-Wan Kenobi series that takes place ten years after the events of Rise of the Dark Sith, when Anakin became Vader. The nice thing about Star Wars - is 1) George Lucas is an excellent world builder, 2) he left a lot of gaps in his story for people to play around with - seriously this series is ripe for fanfic. I wrote fanfic in my head for it, which explains why I was so annoyed by the prequels and the Force Awakens trilogy.

Also, the Nevers, among other interesting things is popping up on HBO Max, and various interesting things are popping up on Netflix. I can basically just do nothing but watch television and be a happy camper.

My body may be annoyed with me however.

On the Whedon front? Yes, I'll still watch The Nevers. Will let you know what I think.

Also picked up some books - which I may never get around to reading or listening to, as the case may be. I keep grabbing free audible books or books on sale. Same with Kindle - I get them free or on sale.

So I rarely pay more than $7 for a book.
