1. I'm caught up now on Mare from East Town - which is available on HBO. It reminds me a little of Broadchurch and Prime Suspect, except more in line with Prime Suspect in terms of quality? It takes place in a depressed Pennsylvania small town. Where it appears to be raining most of the time, and few if any leaves on the trees. Gray skies. Everyone seems cold. No snow on the ground.
Kate Winslet is quite good as Mare, as is the rest of the cast. It's odd to see how everyone has aged. Guy Pearce looks so old, and I remember him when he was young and hot - in Christopher Nolan's "Memento" - which seems like it was just a few years ago. Why is it when you get older the years just seem to blur together like days in a week?
Speaking of aging? Old college buddy sent me a photo of myself and four other women, three of which I remembered. I looked great in the picture. I was twenty years of age, thin, and very tall. I didn't realize how tall I looked next to the other women. I towered over everyone in the picture. Also all legs and arms. My waist was on level with one woman's chest. I was head and shoulders above her. I remember my friends saw me walking with another friend (who was four foot five) and wondered if that's how they looked walking next to me. (I'm six foot.)
Anyhow back to the show? It's good. I don't tend to like these types of shows, but this one is character centric, and the lead characters are likable - also all the leads are women, with the men in supporting roles. It's kind of subversive in that way - the focus is on women instead of men, usually it's the opposite.
2. Also watched first two episodes of Jupiter's Legacy - which is intriguing in how it's told - a mix of flashback and current storyline. The series was developed, written, directed and produced by Steven Deknight, based on the comics by Mark Millner and Frank Quitely. It stars Josh Dushmel, Leslie Bibb, Ben Daniels, and Matt Lantner.
What is it about? A bunch of folks got super powers in the 1930s, which changed their lives - they saved the world, and had kids. The kids developed powers - and the world got more complicated. They are now having a sort of generational disagreement - do they hold to their code or bend it a bit?
The code is kill no one, don't interfere and don't play god.
Utopia/Sheldon adheres to a strict code that he enforces on the other heroes and the others agreed to - no killing, no taking of lives, and no influencing of governments. Otherwise no free will, and who stops them?
But the counter-argument is - what if you could save lives? What if you could have stopped the holocaust or the Vietnam War? What if killing the villain stops the problem, instead of just putting him in jail - where he can break free and hurt you? Why not take out the Nazies in the streets?
The controversy over the series is - well that theme. And the feeling it is pushing lethal force.
It's also about a dysfunctional family.
3. And watched an episode of Nancy Drew and Legacies - I'm not as far behind on Nancy as I am on Legacies. Legacies - I'm 6 episodes behind. I like the characters on Nancy better than Legacies. Also the writing is slightly better. But I'm not ready to give up on Legacies yet.
4. This is Us will end next season or the sixth season. It's in S5 now. And this is writer/creator dictated. They are trying to decide if they want to start with a brand new family after they complete their arc.
If this was their plan all along and they'd plotted it this way? Then why isn't it written tighter than it is? It's kind of all over the place, and feels sloppy. It's weird, but Breaking Bad - which had no plan, is one of the tightest plotted and written series I've seen, and This is Us which did have a plan kind of meanders.
That said, it does have some really good episodes here and there.
5. Not feeling good today - no idea why. Digestive issues at the moment.
Headache at various points. Felt off in the middle of the day - like I was wiped out. Also overly tired and no energy. I don't know what is up with me - this started in May. I was more or less fine in January through April.
Maybe it's just seasonal allergies?
*****

Took a brief walk to the pharmacy and back - the other one. The cheaper one. Picked up toilet tissue, razor blades, toilet paper, chocolate, a thermometer, and laundry detergent. Last time this year - I wouldn't been able to get half of this stuff. So I decided to make sure I had a back up thermometer.
I have a lot of masks. All types of masks. Ones with filters, ones without.
KN95 and KN94 masks. Also a really thin one that I kind of think is useless to be honest. Its just one layer of material and thin at that. Plus uncle's odd paper mask.
I am still wearing them - because everyone else is, and I agree with everyone else. I don't know what to think yet. Plus it helps with the seasonal allergies.
Anyhow...signing off to go to bed.
