Year 2 - Day 97
Jun. 21st, 2021 06:00 pmDid nothing but watch television, and walk about today. More television watching than walking - mainly because it is akin to walking through water. We've 70% humidity, and in the 80s. I got tired after six blocks. Did it twice today. Also lifted six pound hand weights, or maybe they are three pound? I've no clue.
As a result, I'm all caught up on Legacies - which has made some excellent casting changes, and managed to evolve some of its characters and their relationships in an interesting way. The new female character, Finch, is a nice addition to the cast, as is Chloe. Also they've given Landon a bit more edge, and shaken up his too cute star-crossed romance with Hope.
Also started watching The Mandalorian S2 - which so far isn't quite as strong as S1, or as well written as S1. (Timothy Olyphant has aged - and keeps getting cast in the same role.) I skipped episode 2, from the "previously" - I didn't miss much. Also the baby yoda eats weird things.
My parents situation is getting increasingly depressing as the days go by, and I've no clue what to do about it. Mother can't financially afford to bring my father home and give him full hospice care. (Honestly, no one in her community really can, and they've advised her as much.) She has her own needs. If she did, she could go through all their savings and have nothing left to afford her own care in a matter of five years if that. Watching this play out is terrifying and also eye-opening. My parents are upper-middle class and well off - they are far from broke, and can to a degree afford their care. But it clarifies that the best care - top of the grade - is only available to the very wealthy.
Our society is very uneven.
Anyhow it is getting increasingly difficult to find the humor in the situation. They bought a large television for my Dad, but they can't install it on the wall, just place it on the dresser - and it is a smart tv, but she's trying to keep it simple for him - and he can't turn it on, someone else has to. The buttons are too small. I want to kick my brother for not doing a better job on the selection. Also, mother received the CD/Clock radio that my brother ordered for my Dad, but she can't figure out how to get it to work.
Oh, and yet another extended family member has been sent to the hospital. Let's see if my family survives 2021. It's touch and go at the moment.
As an aside is a tingling sensation in the nerves a symptom of diabetes or hormones?

COVID
* On the news they announced that Madison Square Garden held its first concert since the pandemic - full attendance, no masks.
* Also Yankee Stadium has lifted all mask requirements - you get in with a negative test or vaccine. Although they appear to be kind of lax on both.
* Meanwhile everyone in my nieghborhood is still wandering about with masks, and all indoor establishments require them.
* Apparently anti-body tests are not a reliable indicator of the vaccine's effectiveness. The vaccine is most likely effective even if you got a negative result from the anti-body test. Mainly because it depends on what test you took, what it looked for, and other related factors. So don't go by them. [Source the NY Times] That's not exactly reassuring.
