After the difficult work week - I just crashed this weekend. Even skipped Zoom/FB Church. I just didn't want to do any live-streaming tech services.
Social media was about it. And not all that much of it - at that.

Made muffins this morning - halved a recipe that called for three eggs to two eggs. They turned out surprisingly well. Used a paeolo flour mix that I had in the fridge. (I am unable to digest most grains, practically all grains, so am regulated to paeolo and gluten free mixes, or keto, which are almond flour, coconut flour, bean flours, chickpea flours, etc.)

Also discovered if I use a wooden spoon to scramble eggs, there are no scratches on the pan and the eggs are scrambled better.

Spoke to my parents today.

Mother: You're father wants to know if you got home okay from the meeting?
Me: Uh, yes. I did. (I've not left my apartment all weekend. ) I'm watching tv now.
Father: What did you think of the presentation?
Me: I guess I handled it well? It went well.
Mother: No, you attended it, you didn't present.
Me: Oh, sorry, done so many things this week - forgot. I thought it was done well. What did you think of it? (note to self - when in doubt, go general, always the best bet).
Father: It was well organized and they presented the data well. They are splitting the planet into quadrants, about seven, with various military groups set up, over fifty percent have been conscripted. Have you been yet?
ME: I feel like we're suddenly in my science fiction television series.
[I'm watching the Expanse, and honestly what he's saying isn't that far off from it.]
Mother: I think you are both too old to be conscripted into the military.
Father: mumbles something incoherently in the background.
Mother: We just wanted to touch base with you to see what you thought.

My conversations with my parents now require me to role play and do improvisational acting on spot. Lovely.

Yesterday's conversation with Mother...

Me: I'm sick of my job, I want to retire. I'm going to in five years.
Mother: But can you? Do you have anything lined up? Can you afford to? If I was dead, maybe, but if I don't die soon, probably not.
Me: Okay, this conversation has become depressing and frustrating all of a sudden, not to mention morbid.
Mother: And I don't think you want me dead -
Me: No. I do not. Can we change topics please?

I've been watching The Expanse - Season 4. (I saw S1-3 in 2017-2019. And watched two recaps. I remember one through three pretty well, and it's helped by the fact that I read the book that the first two seasons is based on.) The Expanse handles diverse and colorblind casting better than most series out there, also, according to astrophysicists, it's the most realistic science fiction series ever done. I'd agree - there's a lot of handwavable magical realism in Farscape, Doctor Who, Star Trek and Star Wars masquerading as science, and don't get me started on Firefly (which is basically a Western disguised as a science fiction series - actually a lot of sci fi is another genre wrapped up in the trappings of science fiction. Most of the time its either the horror tropes or the western tropes.)

The Expanse unlike those series actually delves into what being in Space does to the human body, and organic matter. It talks about the practical bits, like logistics, wear and tear, organizational systems, etc. Far better world-building than most.

Plus I love the characters, and how diverse they truly are. It gets better as it goes. My favorite characters are Christianne, Naomi, Bobby, Amos, Alex, and the Chief from Tychon (who is Naomi's friend). I am ambivalent about Holden and Miller, although I will admit Holden gets on my nerves at times. He did in the book too - so it's not an actor issue, it's a character issue.

I'm enjoying the 4th season more than I expected. Just watched the first five episodes. Have five more to go until S5, and S6 (the final season) just dropped. So no, cliff-hangers. Yay.

Not much else to report. I'm ignoring the news for the most part. The NY Mayor did state in a live briefing that they are now delivering free of charge, home test kits, and COVID care kits along with medication to those in need. I'm not sure how that will work - but okay. And NY apparently leads the Nation in vaccinations - we're at 75%. (I think California would be ahead if it weren't for those wacky holistic health nuts who drank the Kool Aid). OR the city is, it's hard to know. Not sure I believe them - they are politicians and always campaigning.
