Y2/327 - Not a lot to say..
Feb. 6th, 2022 06:17 pmKnee deep in The Expanse S5 - which is better than S4, in that it's more thrilling. The Expanse works likes this - S1 builds S2, then the back end of S2 begins to build up S3, S4 builds S5, back end of S5 builds S6.
Anyhow, bought a new fire alarm, since the current one isn't working, only to discover from the super that the building has to supply them. They'll install, and I think they may need to provide another one. Also they need to adjust my door so that it is self-closing now - a new requirement after the big fire in an apartment building in the Bronx that killed sixty some people.
Cold day. I got groceries and took out the trash, straightened up a little. Need to move stuff tomorrow and put clothes and things in plastic bag to prepare for painters. Super has informed me that the paint that they are using in the bedroom doesn't stink - so I'll be able to sleep with no problems.
Painting takes place on Tuesday - when I'm in the office. Working from home tomorrow. ( Read more... )

Mother needs knee surgery. Someone will have to help her. I offered, but my brother has already offered and is the better bet. He's not working full time, he can drive, and he's strong. Also he's not quite as high maintenance - ie. no dietary restrictions or medications.
Me: I've been trying to apply logic with Soap Twitter.
Mother: You can't be logical with Soap Twitter or soap operas or the fandom, none are logical. The stupid writers aren't logical. They defy logic.
Me: I know. I can't help myself. It's an exercise in masochism.
Meanwhile in Buffy Twitter (which is tiny). People are still trying ascribe the Trioka (the nerdy villains in Buffy S6 to Whedon). DeKnight did agree by 1000% that they were meant to be mocked and seen as misogynistic, and not adored. But I'm not entirely certain you can claim the writers were writing about their boss, so much as fanboys they'd met at comic conventions. In other words they were writing about fans. Or now, apparently called "stans" on Twitter. (jesuswasbatman gave me the definition but I also googled and found it:
noun
plural noun: stans
an overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity.
"he has millions of stans who are obsessed with him and call him a rap god"
verb
3rd person present: stans
be an overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity.
"y'all know I stan for Katy Perry, so I was excited to see the artwork for her upcoming album"
Origin
early 21st century: with allusion to the 2000 song ‘Stan’ by the American rapper Eminem, about an obsessed fan.
Found the song... Stan by Eminem about an obsessed fan. I get it - but couldn't people pick a word from a less controversial singer?
The English language keeps evolving, whether we want it to or not. This go around, we can blame the rapper Eminem, who is also a wife abuser. The internet is nothing if not ironically hypocritical. I sometimes think its the proverbial snake eating it's own tail.

Mother has been watching the Olympic Figure Skating and regaling me with the details. Apparently there's a 15 year old Russian female skater that is the best ever with the highest score ever 94.5, and a young Chinese-American figure skater that is wowing the world. I know about the male one, the Chinese-American, but didn't know about the Russian. So I decided to record it - tonight and tomorrow night. It's on far too late to actually watch.
I've not really been watching.

The cases must be down in NYC again, since I see less masks in and out of the building. Dropping off the trash in the basement today - I noticed no one was wearing masks. And the super's wife isn't wearing hers as much any longer. Same with folks outdoors - although you'd think with the cold weather they'd wear them?

Anyhow...here's a picture. Perhaps I'll make it back there someday.
