Co-worker: Masks should be a personal choice along with vaccines.
Me: I've learned the hard way, not to discuss this topic with folks any longer. Particularly here.
Co-worker: Kind of like politics and
Me: Religion. Best to stick to -
Co-worker: Hair styles.
Me: I think I've found myself on the opposite side of my own argument again.
Mother: Huh?
Me: Way back when - KP (former boss) said that humans had too many rights, when I told her that I was into human rights advocacy. Now, with all the folks telling me that they believe it should be a personal choice or they should have the right to refuse a vaccine or refuse to wear a mask - I'm thinking frack human rights.
Mother: They aren't the same thing.
Me: What do you mean?
Mother: Everyone's right to health care, voting, shelter, food, being treated with respect isn't the same as being given the personal choice to keep others safe. If a child doesn't get a measles shot and infects other kids - due to his personal choice -
ME: Oh, okay. So I guess I'm still for human rights.
Sometimes my 79 year old mother is smarter than me. We decided we'd be each other's Valentine's today. Her Valentine is kind of out of sorts - Alzheimers. He couldn't figure out what he was doing, or how to move his legs or how to eat today. Mother was going to have Valentine's Dinner with him tonight, but decided not to - since he was completely out of it. (Reminds me of what happened around Christmas - when we planned to have dinner with him and it didn't pan out. I had all these ideas in my head and none of them panned out - I learned to just live in the moment with my Dad, and not think past that.
Actually, I've learned to do that with most everything. Making plans...gives the Universe wicked ideas.
Mother: Your father was holding a meeting the other day - a big one in the lounge.
Me: As in imaginary?
Mother: Yes, it was in his head. And the male nurse came by to take him back, and he turned to the nurse and said, okay, now you take over the meeting. The Male Nurse went "ack", and had a look of panic on his face. But he made a valiant attempt. But apparently it didn't go very well, because your father looked disappointed.
ME: My father has gone back to work in his head.
Mother: He hasn't worked in 30 years.
Me: Maybe he's time traveling?

Going back to work isn't too bad. Everyone is wearing masks - because it's mandatory where I work. But some idiots have not figured out how to upgrade from the blue surgical masks to the KF94, KN95, and N95. The co-worker from the dialogue above - was wearing a blue surgical mask. She seemed unconvinced they worked. Everyone in her family got COVID over the holidays - mainly because they didn't social distance, stopped wearing masks except for the blue ones, and not everyone was fully vaccinated - because they don't believe vaccines work. (They do work - people just don't understand how vaccines work. It's magic cure all - no vaccine is. It takes time. Weakens the virus, the virus stops mutating, and eventually goes away. See: Polio, Small Pox, the Spanish Flu. I tried this argument with co-worker though and got no where, she said that Polio was when they actually worked. I'm fighting the evil marketing folks that spread misinformation - it's a losing battle. I kind of hope the evil marketing people die of COVID, but they are like cockroaches - unkillable.)
I probably should stop talking to people - but it is apparently impossible for me to not talk to folks at work.
The meeting with the nutty attorney wasn't held today. Both nutty attorney and manager called in sick. Nutty attorney tried to get us to reschedule on Sunday, we ignored him. (Not to Sunday, but to reschedule it to Wed, on Sunday.) I was slightly annoyed - since I'd had a rough night digestively speaking, and was up through most of it. Yet, I'd deigned to come into the office and not call in sick. On the other hand, I was also relieved. I needed a slow day today.
It was pretty at least. Crystal blue skies. And bitterly cold. The type of day in which everyone wanted to work remotely including me. But hey, at least it was dry. There's a bill going in front of the Governor apparently to provide us all with a permanent hybrid schedule.

Canadian on Twitter was complaining about wearing masks to the Grocery store. I'm like...really? And she's progressive left.

Chidi keeps rec'ing the Last Duel to me. I told him that I flirted with it, but the subject matter has been turning me off. It took him a minute, but he got it - without me having to explain myself. I did have to explain it to mother - The Last Duel is about a woman claiming to be raped by her husband's rival, the only way to settle the dispute is for her husband to reclaim his honor by fighting the rival in a duel to the death. If he loses, the wife will be killed as a liar. It takes place in Medieval France, is based on a true story, and told in three perspectives - the husband, the rival knight, and the wife. While I find the narrative structure intriguing - I can't handle the subject matter at the moment. It would drive up my blood pressure.
