1. Doing the archive thing has been kind of weird. I've noticed that I wrote a lot of book and film and television reviews and essays of shows, books, and films that I've no memory of. I don't remember seeing them, and couldn't tell you what they were about. It's almost as if someone else wrote the reviews. It's very discombobulating.

For example? Read more... )

Also, I apparently saw Huey Lewis and the News perform in a balloon hovering over Bryant Park during Good Morning America (but alas have no memory of it, me thinks my mind decided to delete most of the memories from 2006 - when I got laid off from the health insurance company - as a way of excising trauma.)

Memory is weird. And unreliable. Hence the reason we have journals.

Also, I figured out why I couldn't handle criticism at all back then - I was being slammed/rejected constantly from all angles - my only safe place was my journal. Read more... )

Oh, another bit? I keep running into ghosts while doing this. People commenting on posts who are "literally" dead now. They passed away years ago. Had the same thing happen sharing photos with my niece, one of the people in the photograph was "dead". It was discombobulating to say the least.

2. Been feeling off today, due partly to lack of sleep, mostly to perimenopause - resulting in sick vertigo headache, and hot flashes, sweats, and brain fog.

Did get bed made up clean at least. Also got a little grocery shopping done - fruit, greens, and tomato sauce.

3. Television

* Sex Pistols by Danny Boyle on Hulu

The first episode is about Steve Jones and his pals forming the band under Malcolm and Viv. Jones also starts a kind of pseudo friendship/romance with Chrissy Lynd Hynd (before she formed the Pretenders).

Second is when Malcolm pulls in Johnny Rotten as the front man, having realized Steve doesn't cut it as a lead singer. He puts Steve on bass, after they fire the bass guitarist, McClaren.

The third is when they hire Sid Vicious - or John Lynde, who gets the name Sid Vicious from the gerbil named Sid, and Vicious when he decides the gerbil is Vicious.

Johnny: You need a name. You can't be John.
John: fine what...oh hello Sid. (playing with gerbil in the cage, named Sid)
Johnny: Sid works.
John: Fine Sid. But I need a last name - I can't just be Sid..now can I?
Hey, ouch. You are Vicious.
Johnny's eyes get big.

By the way, the actor playing Johnny Rotten is a dead ringer for the actual Johnny Rotten, and ugly as sin. He got the name Rotten due to his rotten teeth.

I was bored. It kind of follows these guys around, and hollers about making a political statement. But all they do is do drugs, jam, fuck, and yell at each other. Reminding me why I'm not a huge fan of punk.

I kind of archived during it.

* The Hating Game - on Hulu

Eh, whomever did this - sucks at dialogue. Also casting. I did not like the guy playing the male romantic lead. And the dialogue sucks. I gave up.

Tried reading the book - which is only slightly better. It's popular. I've no clue why. I admittedly have issues with contemporary romance. Also they both could be my kids (so there's that).

The set-up? Ugh. Boy meets Girl in publishing house. They are rival personal assistants to the editors in chief, both vying for the managing editor position, and have agreed whomever gets it - the other will quit, since that person couldn't work for the other one nor would they want them to. They hate each other. And yes, if you smell vibes of Shop Around the Corner, you would not be wrong. Except in this scenario - they know it, and sleep together, then run into the problem of vying for the same job.

I hate this set up. Also, it reminds me of why I have issues with the publishing industry and have stopped purchasing paperback or hard back books and get them dirt cheap.

* Picard - episode one, S1

I may skip to S2? I fell asleep in the first episode. I did not fall asleep in S2, episode 2.

It had something to do with the daughter of Data trying to escape a bunch of rogue agents from Mars, and folks on a Borg ship under repairs.

While Picard was trying to retire at his vineyard, but failing miserably at it. He felt he should do something - instead of waiting around to die. (ME: uhm running a vineyard, walking a dog, and interacting with folks you saved and care for you is hardly waiting around to die - you nitwit. I wanted to smack him. You are becoming like Kirk in your old age Picard, and it's not a good look on you. That said - I was intrigued by the supporting characters.)

* Apparently they did a documentary of a Glee Concert way back in the third or fourth season of the series, before half the cast died, was thrown in prison, or fell on hard times. Glee is kind of tragic, at least two of the cast members died either during or after the series ended, while others fell on bad times.

Knowing this - makes it kind of weird to watch.
