1. Finished the audio book...Burn it Down - Hollywood Abuse, Complicity and a Call to Change by Maureen Ryan - and it was okay. Kind of disappointing. Nothing we all don't know already from elsewhere. Also, for a journalist and television critic, Ryan rambles a lot. It needed a good editor - making me wonder once again, what the heck is going on with the publishing industry and editors? I know it has them - I've met them, and recently.

Ryan has a significant other who has a good job and money, so she can afford to do this, or so she states in the book. Except she doesn't tell us anything new. All of this has been previously written about by others, in various forms. She does provide a few good tips regarding how to handle a hostile work environment, but that's about it.

Interestingly enough, Whedon never comes up, nor do some of the nasty work environments of the 20th Century. Felicia Day is correct with her tweet that the frightening thing is the realization of all stories that are missing from the book. If you can't find your story - then that gives you an idea of just how widespread this abuse currently is. I think Ryan by-passes Whedon because she spent way too much time providing him with a platform prior to 2021. And now, would like to atone by not providing one at all. She does refer to people like him, again not by name. He could be any of a dozen nameless assholes mentioned in her book.

In other words? I don't recommend the book - you can get the same information online for free. And I've already given you most of those links in previous posts.

2. Working my way through Somebody Somewhere - which kind of reminds of Ted Lasso in a weird sort of undefinable way. It's about a woman who moves back home after the death of her sister, and is struggling with the family dynamics, a dead-end job, and feeling a bit adrift in middle age.

She develops a close friendship with a guy that she formerly knew in high school, who is gay. And along the way, his friends.

Also, working my way through The Diplomat - which is charming, funny, and gripping political satire. Written and produced by women.

Both are quite good.

On Twitter the television writers were upset with Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone) who got all huffy about the WGA (writer's union) insisting on there being more writers on streaming and television series, as opposed to just one or two writers. Sheridan stated he'd just flounce off to film - and should be allowed to do it his way - where it's higher quality. And people brought up Vince Gilligan and Breaking Bad - which is the better show, and had multiple writers. Not only that, but Gilligan valued them.

They are right, I've seen both shows - and Breaking Bad is the better television series. It's less soapy and has a better plot and character arc. Sheridan has a tendency towards repetition. Also Gilligan had a clear end in sight, not sure Sheridan does.

3. Have a bit of Sundayitis. Not made better by the fact that my cold water faucet handle in the shower has broken off. The plastic inside has eroded.
I don't know if they can quickly replace it. I hope so. It barely turns the water on and off - for the cold water. And I'm not sure if the hot water one has issues or not - for now it appears to be working fine.

I notified the super. They informed me that they'd check it out on Monday.
Can't do anything about it tonight.

See? That's why I'm worried. I don't know how quickly they can fix that?

Oh well, at least I got my hair washed tonight. Next time I have to do it is Tuesday. I can possibly use the kitchen sink.

4. Here's a picture of flowers:

And two people going to comic con...on the train.
