1. Went on another book buying spree courtesy of Smart Bitches. I swear I have more books than I'll ever get around to reading by now. All under $4.

Link to various fantasy novels on sale via Smart Bitches

* Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire (who I may not be able to get through, her writing style can annoy me.) - $3.99 on Kindle

* The Stardust Theif by Chelsea Abdullah at $2.99

* The Final Strife by Saara El-Arifi at $1.99

The look different - and close to some of the ideas brewing for my own fantasy novel, so...there's that. Although I'd be using Celtic not Persian mythology.

2. This was an interesting article that I stumbled upon...

Pru Leith's (of Great British Bake Off) Great American Road Trip

She was going to rent an RV and travel from Los Angeles to Florida, but ended up renting a Ford Explorer, and staying in Motels and Hotels along the way.

And eating a lot of food. I don't know how they ate fried chicken and banana walnut pancakes, but they did.

Friends of friends, on holiday, invited us to their Thanksgiving dinner — turkey with all the trimmings, sweet potatoes, pecan pie and ice cream. In thanking them, I said something about the pleasure of such generosity, family closeness and their children’s politeness. Our host laughed. It’s because we’re from the South, she said. It wouldn’t be the same in Chicago. Perhaps for the next road trip, I’ll take a northern route to see if that’s true.

Word to the wise? Don't believe anything a Floridian tells you, most of them are from either New York, Pennsylvania or New England, or immigrants from Cuba and the Carribbean, few were born or raised in Florida.

3. Took today off - the game plan for today and yesterday, was to do something with Wales. But alas, the weather foiled us. Yesterday, we thought it was raining later in the day, so tried to meet earlier only to get drenched and declare a raincheck. Today, with temperatures topping 92 degrees, and 80% humidity, we bailed. I went grocery shopping, and was drenched with sweat by the time I got home.

It was hot and steamy outside, and the air quality wasn't stellar.

(I walked ten blocks to the grocery store and lugged the groceries back, I don't drive it.)

Bro has lyme disease again, according to Mother. And is taking anti-biotics. This is the second time, he's contracted it. The deer ticks are fierce up where he is. And closer to the house than before. Also he works outside and in the yard a lot.

Mom said he was feeling a little better.

I did accomplish a few things - vacuumed, grocery shopping, took two bags of clothing and a broken air purifier to the basement, started another painting (of people going to comic con), edited a bit of my novel, listened to more of Geena Davis' autobiography "Dying Politely" - which so far is better than the last two books I listened to. Actor's narrate better.

And I finished my binge of The Bear S2 on Hulu.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a productive day at work.

4. The Bear S2 - this was excellent. I actually like S2 better than season 1, and it progressed all the characters arcs forward, nicely. The only character who felt like he'd stumbled slightly backwards was weirdly the lead.

It had some good cameo guest stars in there. Jamie Lee Curtis plays the lead's abusive mother, DeDee, Oliver Platt (the financier and family friend, with possible mob ties), Bob Odenkirk (his Uncle Jimmy), Sarah Paulson (cousin Michelle), John Mulaney (Michelle's partner), Olivia Coleman (Chef Terry), and Jon Beranthal (his brother Michael who committed suicide prior to the first season.)

Those are the cameos. The main cast is excellent. It moves at a clip. And gets across the hustle and bustle of a restaurant, that never ends, never stops, and the heightened focus. And pain and glory of it. It also shows how you can do it without being a jerk, and without it being a toxic work environment.

One of the better series on at the moment.

So, I finished The Diplomat, Somebody Somewhere, and The Bear.

Now: Night Agent, The Witcher, Secret Invasion, Mandalorian S3, Strange New Worlds.
