Aug. 19th, 2023 11:41 pmSo, saw Interstellar - that leaves one Nolan "movie length" film I've not seen. (He's also done a lot of shorts). Well two - The Following and Dunkirk.
I could be wrong about this, but I still think that part of what took Whedon (and DC's Geoff Johns) down at Warner is they royally pissed off Christopher Nolan (who was a producer on Justice League and best friends with Zack Snyder.) Because let's face it - everyone knew about Charisma's story - but she got persuaded to come forward, and told that she'd be protected. And she was. Nolan has clout. Snyder doesn't but Nolan does. It's also how Snyder's cut of Justice League got on HBO - Nolan produced it.[I'm cynical. I don't for one minute believe MeToo# brought these guys down - anymore than I believe that it brought Andrew Cuomo down. They got away with it for years, and Trump is a 100 times worse (Trump actually assaulted women and is a rapist - see Jean Carroll defamation case - which she one, and that's one of many). No, they pissed of someone with more power than they have or clout, and that person or persons either let them get taken down or instigated it. Before that they were protected, then they weren't. See? Cynical. I'd like to be wrong about that - I really would.]
I like Christopher Nolan films, the woman are strong, their themes are anti-facism, anti-ego, and pro-science. And they handle the time travel conundrum well. Also the cinematography and visuals are excellent. Plus he casts well. Plus there's always a puzzle - the suspense is in figuring it out. So they are intelligent films. He makes his audience work a bit - and trusts the audience's intelligence.

Christopher Nolan vs. Joss Whedon, who would you pick?
Well Nolan has never done television, doesn't do soap operas or supernatural teen shows. So it's probably a bit like comparing an apple to a nectarine?
But I do prefer Nolan's films to Whedon's. (I don't particularly like Whedon's films - they all have a...Warren Miers vibe to them that is somewhat unsettling. Nor did I like particularly like The Nevers, Dollhouse, Firefly, Doctor Horrible or Agents of Shield for other reasons. But I did love Buffy and Angel, which for some reason or other didn't have that vibe - but that's most likely due to the collaborative aspect. Often television is more collaborative than film.)
That said, Whedon is good at snappy dialogue. However? Nolan impressed me with the dialogue for Oppenheimer. So there you go. Nectarine vs. Apple.
