Sep. 11th, 2023 06:15 pmI finally got my blue sky social account. Here: @ shadowllyd.bsky.social
Mainly because I want a politics free place to interact with fellow culture junkies.
Also, the sky kindly waited until after I'd gotten home and all settled to open up and pour. There's a thunderstorm going on at the moment. If it hadn't waited - I'd have been soaked or stuck somewhere, because I forgot the umbrella - not that umbrella is all that effective.
Enjoying The Hollow Places - apparently the author was on the ATPO Board back in the day. I'm thinking under Ursula, although it might have been Kingfisher. I don't remember them. I've just discovered their writing.
Mainly because I don't read kids books or kids comics, and I'm not a big a horror reader. I jump in and out of that genre whenever the mood strikes me. Right now for some reason or other - I'm in the mood for horror. I do not know why. It could just be that I'm burned out on romance novels and hunting the polar opposite?
This vaguely reminds me of some other things I've read or seen. It is the type of horror I enjoy - which is vague descriptions of the monsters, and more psychological horror than gore. I don't like gore, I like creepy. That's my difficulty with Stephen King - he goes over the top. I prefer subtle dread, which granted may bore some readers.
I've inherited my grandmother's tendency to ache whenever it rains now. I think it's arthritis. Arthritis flares up with humidity and rain. Probably should move to the desert, but can't breath in the desert. I'd need humidifiers everywhere.
Oh, did you know stressed is dessert spelled backwards?
Slow Monday. Lawyer informed me that she's torturing the project team for an addendum that has to go out. Two of them. I have a feeling we may have to push the due dates for two projects out another week.

On the tv front. If the Guardian anime series exists? I can't find it. Almost done with Castlevania S2, which was better than expected. It wraps things up quickly. Also started "Cook at All Costs" on Netflix, which is kind of fun. And finished "Dark Winds S2" - which was quite good. It's a noirish series with Navajo Detectives, and it appears to be filmed on the Navajo reservation in Monument Valley. So the landscape is striking. I've never really been to Monument Valley. The desert yes, Monument Valley, no.
We never made it to Utah, spent most of our time in Arizona and New Mexico.
On the me front - I have dermatologist appointment scheduled for Saturday, finally. Need to schedule mammogram. Am procrastinating shots. And somewhat confused as to when to get the things. I don't think the COVID booster is available yet. Been told to wait until Late October/Early November to get the Flu shot, because otherwise it won't be effective in the height of flu season, which is around January and February.
Last year I got them at the same time - they were advising everyone in NYC to do that.
Bro's electricity went out, which caused issues with water and water pressure in his house - his septic pump is connected to his electricity and he doesn't have a generator - it doesn't hook up well with his house. They are planning to see my niece in October, and taking her with them to Monterey for a few days. Niece has applied for a job up at Mount Hood for the winter, where they did outside location shots for the Kubrick film The Shining.
