1. Almost forgot to mention.. Martha Wells Murderbot Novels are being adapted into a television series starring Alexander Starsgaard.

My first thought was that I thought the Murderbot was female for some reason. But apparently not? The narrator for the audiobook - I discovered was male.

I should read the last one. I read all the novellas.

Couldn't get through the Witch King though - may go back to it eventually.

2. Watching the 50th Anniversary of the Daytime Emmy's tonight. Susan Lucci got Lifetime Achievement Award. Y&R celebrated 50 years, and General Hospital is celebrating 60 years.

It's more entertaining than expected - because of the whole honoring 50 years of daytime television. Also instead of sitting in theater style seats, they are all at dinner tables similar to the Golden Globes.

Is it just me or do the arts/entertainment field have an insane amount of award shows? The rest of us don't require awards, why do they? Insecure egos that require validation and constant marketing and promotion? Also, it's ironic - considering the arts are subjective, there's no objective criteria, and you really can't compare these performances or works at all - yet this is what we give awards to??

I agree with Barbra Streisand and Woody Allen - you can't really give awards to one person over another for an acting performance, a film, a television show, a novel, a piece of art...

I also decided to record His Girl Friday, The Awful Truth, Topper, and Suspicion (Cary Grant Marathon on TCM).

3. Oh, they are doing a television called "Elsbeth" a spin-off from the Good Wife on CBS next year.

4. Shingles still acting up. Will it ever go away? It and menopause. I'm told they go away. But I'm beginning to wonder. I don't have blisters at least, just an occasional burning tingling on my left arm.

5. Figured out why I like T Kingfisher's writing - it's the little character moments, such as the Paladin (a warrior) who knits socks. He has the comical thought about how he wishes he could be knitting socks during guard duty. But he was told people would be less likely to take him seriously as a threat. He can't think why - after all he uses four double sided needles made out of sharp sanded down bone, which could do serious damage to someone. Then again, it would most likely mess up his stitches if he used a needle to stab someone, and blood is really a pain to get out of wool, plus he'd have to chase after the yarn - no it really wouldn't work. [That sort of character moment? Priceless. It makes the character well-rounded, relatable, and likeable, also real. And it's what makes one style of writing stand out from another.]

Actually that's what I look for in the books I read - little bits like that. About things the characters enjoy, which I wouldn't expect.
