Struggling with another plot-bunny in my revision of the first draft of my novel. Main character aka protagonist is in a therapy session - and doesn't want to tell the therapist about something horrible she did during the War on Terrorism in Afghanistan and Iraq. And I'm not sure I want to either - since it is really dark. So here we are. Plot-bunny.

Watching the flashing lights on my little tree in the window, along with the fairy lights. I put a Jack Skeleton and Ghost Christmas ornament at the top of it. Wales thought the little tree was real - it looks real. It's not. I leave it up as long as possible, I find it cheerful.

At this time of year - the night is more cheerful than the drab overcast days.

Plus side of the move to Manhattan - I'll be closer to the water, and can go outside and look at the NY harbor every day, also, maybe in the summer take the ferry halfway home? Trying to play up the positives. (What I'm afraid of - is that I'll be the only person who is union represented over there...and that kind of worries me?)

Been having nightmares all week long about work - same ones. Makes no real sense. Just have to do with getting the right information to the right people in a timely manner - kind of a twist on the "not studying for the test" or "being prepared" or "forgetting something" dream, except with technology. I wish my subconscious would come up with something else.

Did get a few odds and ends accomplished today:

* Took down one Christmas Tree. And set up the table it was on for my drawing tablet.

* Took trash downstairs. Still need to take the crock-pot that I've never used downstairs to the basement, for some other family to repurpose.
I have an Instapot, which I need to figure out how to use instead. I suck at appliances.

* Went to two different hardware stores to find a socket wrench. Keep in mind - I walk, don't drive. The first one was about six blocks away - and it didn't have what I was looking for - nor understood what I was looking for. Although to be fair - it Bought a socket wrench to put the new toilet seat on - but alas, it's still a problem. I have issues getting up and down from the bathroom floor, which is hard on the knees, and I'm not sure I can get underneath it to fasten the screws. Right now using duck tape to seal the cracks on the current toilet seat.

I may ask the super's wife if she knows anyone I can pay to put it on for me? Her husband did it last time - but I don't want to ask him - he also has bad knees.

I desperately need a handy person in my life. I suppose I could ask task rabbit and pay someone on it? Maybe also hire them to move stuff downstairs?

* Finally scheduled appointment with a new allergist for April. Earliest availability. Now, just need to figure out the sleep apnea stuff. Also schedule blood work for the endocrinologist.

People are doing year end best of lists on the internet (not necessarily here).

I'll try to cobble together a memorable list? But stuff just kind of blurs together?

Right now, the most memorable and favorite movie I saw this year is still "Oppenheimer". I may try to watch it again. It was amazing. And by far the least flawed of all the films I've seen this year. And possibly last year.

In television? Peaky Blinders, which admittedly was an old series that I got around to seeing this year - and became obsessed with. It's the only television series that I became truly fannish about this year.

Books? Killer's of the Flower Moon, in audible (that's the non-fiction selection); The Twisted Ones by T Kingfisher in Kindle and Horror.
With The Devil Takes You Home in literary horror.

Wales adored her gift of Jeannette Wintersen short stories - or ghost stories. She loves that writer, and adores short fiction, and it was in hard back, light, and with a lovely cover. Her face lit up when she saw it.
And sis-in-law loved her little Japanese container. I got to watch people's faces light up over gifts this year - it's the best feeling. I adore watching someone's face light up with joy - it makes me so happy. It's the best gift ever.

Bro gave me Lauren Groff's latest "The Vaster Wilds", I'd read her novel the Monsters of Templeton Place.

Took today and tomorrow off - burning off my remaining vacation time.

25 Foods that Non-Americans find Disgusting

25. Chicken and waffles.

It's a Southern Dish - and tends to be Fried Chicken and Waffles. And just no. I didn't know it existed until I discovered that I couldn't eat them.

24. I like mint-flavored things. Skeptical European should realize mint flavor in toothpaste is there because people might like it.

This is true. I love Peppermint Ice Cream. And adore mint chocolates. Best girl scout cookies were the mint chocolate cookies (which are unfortunately not Gluten-Free.) Also adore York Peppermint Patties.

23. Corn dogs.

Didn't like them, when I could eat them. A big fair thing. See them a lot at street fairs and carnivals and state fairs. [You can buy hot dogs that are just beef and low on additives by the way. See Hebrew National.]
