1. While bored at work (and I am, dreadfully bored, which is not good for me, albeit better than being insanely stressed out) - I found an article listing all the upcoming movies...

Motivating me either to buy a new television without a slight wave or go to the movies again.

What looks good?
ah summer movies... )

2. Here's a cute little fan (it hangs around your neck) that I bought via Wallgreens to take care of annoying hot flashes (which are either caused by fluctuations in blood sugar or fluctuations in hormones or a little bit of both...)

fan )

It works believe it or not. Runs on batteries.

3. Me and Wales on Books

* Still working my way through the satire - Yellowface, which is reminding me of why I'm not overly crazy about satire? I may just give up and hand it over to Wales, when I see her next. I bought it for her, not for me. She loves these things. Wales recently read and highly recommends The Plot which has a similar plot to Yellowface, except it's two men, and it doesn't involve racism, and isn't a satire? Instead it's a mystery/thriller. I may try it. Don't know.

* Gave up on Bride - too YA romance. Also the writing style isn't working for me? And, admittedly, I'm not much of a fan of the romanticized vampire in novels, or werewolves (both are over-done) and the whole sucking blood thing as foreplay regardless of who does it, and the licking and biting thing - kind of grosses me out? (There's a lot of sex scenes where all they do is lick, bite, and suck on each others various and sundry body parts including ears. Eww. The ear is not an erogenous zone for me - it grosses me out when people suck on it. So with that in mind - your mileage may vary on this?)

* Wales is loving the Jeanette Winterson book that I gave her - "Night Side of the River: Ghost Stories". (Wales is interesting. She loves horror, but not fantasy or science fiction. I slant in the opposite direction, although I do appreciate a good horror novel, television series or film - and do partake of them - as you all know.) Wales: "it's good crisp clean writing. I really appreciate the clean writing and story telling. There's one story where a couple is refurbishing a house in the country, and they end up being taken over by spirits inhabiting various objects. You see it from both points of view, and it destroys their relationship. Reminded me of the movie - The Skeleton Key."

* Finished Magic Tides - which had a wee bit too much in common with the second novel of the Kate Daniels series. I really wish the writers would go back to Blood Heir and Julie's series, but I think they are stuck - and don't want to kill off Kate. So are trying to find a way around it.
That said, I enjoyed the book. The characters and their relationships continue to grow and change. Curran has pretty much separated himself from the Pack now, and wants nothing to do with it. This is what I like about the series - everyone changes.

* Started a somewhat comical historical romance -The Lady He Lost by Faye Delacore" (the writing style is comical at any rate - somewhat tongue in cheek snarky?). The gist? He was presumed dead at sea for two years. Comes back, everyone is shocked. Including the woman he jilted but was actually in love with. Much chaos ensues, it always does.

* In audio books? Paused Starter Villain by John Scalzi - which is a bit too "clever" for its own good. I feel there should be a laugh track? Also Will Wheaton isn't good at doing multiple voices. So, I get confused?
I'll go back to it, eventually. Project Hail Mary was better - mainly because it had a better narrator - vocal talent. (Shhh don't tell them. I really don't want to be attacked on social media again this week. Once a month is enough for my poor blood pressure. I swear I think sometimes the internet is trying to kill me. Granted I probably should stop egging it on by offering my opinion on things, often ill-advised. I really need to learn when to keep my big mouth shut - less likely to insert foot.) Anyhow - switched over to Magic Slays: a Dramatic Adaptation - and it's excellent. It has multiple voices. It's so good, I got more of them. I adore the Kate Daniels series. I think I've read them five times now. She intersperses them with various folk tales, myths, stories, histories form her world. It's among the best examples of world building for fantasy that I've seen to date. Also utilizes lesser known myths and folk tales - since one of the writers is Russian - she pulls heavily from her own culture.
