Let People Be...
May. 7th, 2024 09:29 pm1. While watching my soap opera on the DVR during dinner (I watch it instead of the news), in the bottom left hand corner - it advised me of "breaking news" - a teen had been shot in Soho.
Wouldn't it be nice if the breaking news was positive? Also it couldn't have waited until after the soap to inform folks, so I could remain oblivious? Knowing this - helps no one.
2. I checked out the Met Gala via Twitter and the Morning News aka NY1.
The Best Dressed Stars at the Met Gala
My fav is below.

Someone utilizing AI was having a field day creating fake images of people (who couldn't make the gala) on Twitter. So unless you knew, you'd assume it was them.
Fake AI Met Gala Photos of Katy Perry and Rhiannon
And... Doja Cat appeared in nothing but a towel
It was supposed to be a fairytale garden theme - to fit awakening "Sleeping Beauties Fashion Exhibit" at the Met. But most people appeared to interpret this as a black and white ball?
One woman...per the news, wore sand.
"For her inaugural Met, the singer turned to Balmain to help her bring her fantastical look to life. Latching onto time as the operative word from the night’s Garden of Time dress code, the Balmain team fashioned Tyla a dress made of sand—a nod to the sands of time."
3. On summery days, I'm reminded that I live on an island. There's a sea breeze, and it smells ever so slightly of salt and sand and light ocean air. Even miles away. Also the sky is a crystal blue, and there's a call of gulls.
And if I take the train about forty five minutes or even thirty - and a quick fifteen to twenty minute walk - there's the East River, and the ocean beyond it. On the elevated viaduct that the subway rattles across on my way home - there lies the Statue of Liberty in the distance, and expanse of sky and sea and city sprawled on an island braced with bridges.
It's at times like these...that I love my city, and never want to leave.
4. The last few days have felt a bit like having the Who's on First What's on Second discussion or worse... the Cavemen vs. Astronaut debate. And I think, I should have just stayed in bed.
Babs had me thoroughly confused. Also paranoid that I'd accidentally doze off and get fired.

Honestly, I don't think anyone cares what I do. Barely anyone interacts with me.
Babs: You need to go to the project progress meeting since you don't know the project and are inheriting it.

It was a waste of time - I learned nothing about the project. Well except for the fact that they don't have as-built drawings.
I need a vacation from my workplace. I may take two-three days off around Memorial Day weekend.
5. Having made it about 19% of the way through The Benevolent Society of Ill-Mannered Ladies, it occurs to me that there aren't many tall women in books. They are all short. Or shorter than I am. My father wrote novels that his editor always criticized for having too many tall women in them.
Editor: All your women are too tall. The average woman isn't that tall.
My Father: I don't know what you mean? They are just 5'9-5'11, not that tall.
Editor: Average woman is between 5'4-5'6
Father: That's kind of tiny? Hey, my wife is 5'9 and my daughter is 5'11, six foot.
Editor:That's abnormal.
It's kind of aggravating. I think it's why I loved the Vicky Bliss mysteries.
6. BattleStar Galatica 2.0 is now streaming on Amazon, in case you want to rewatch or watch it, assuming you have Amazon. I have it with commercials, because I refuse to pay extra. Also the commercials aren't that bad - they are only before each episode. If that.
The Fall Guy - is also coming out in movie theaters. It's tempting. I like Emily Blunt. It's a movie adaptation of the Lee Majors television series of the same name. Not to be confused with The Stunt Man, which I think the Lee Majors series was a television adaptation of, but not certain.
Ryan Gossling is making the sexy movie rounds, prior to starring in a story about a less than physically appealing reluctant astronaut in Project Hail Mary, which has ...alien spiders. They are nice alien spiders. But just, no. What is it with movies about alien spiders? There's three of them now.
Oh well at least I can avoid them now - there's so much content out there, that the ads are completely lost in the shuffle.
I'm flirting with Shogun, 3 Body Problem, and a host of other things, including S2 of Outlander.
While, over on Twitter, some writer was over the moon that agents were vying for her historical novel about a Revolutionary War Surgeon. I don't think I'd read that? Would you read that? I feel like it's been done before? Maybe not? I could be confusing it with a Kathleen Woodwiss romance novel published in the 1970s, where the hero was a Revolutionary War surgeon? Or was that novel taking place during the Civil War? God knows.
Speaking of Twitter? JK Rowlings got scolded by Elon Musk. He told her that while he understood and agreed with her concerns on transgender, perhaps she might consider posting about something other than TERF or transgender, something positive...maybe on cats. (I don't agree with Rowlings - I think she went insane, but I did find the fact that Musk of all people lightly chastised her - highly amusing.)
Meanwhile over on TikTock, and reposted across BlueSky - David Tennant made it clear he stood with Transgender, and bigots should just fuck off, and leave them be. David Tennant annihilates anti-trans bigots: ‘F**k off and let people be’
When I was a kid, the idea of being non-binary wasn’t something that existed. It wasn’t a concept. I’ve seen that emerge and people are able to express themselves through that. It only ever seems positive as far as I can see,” he said in a video clip shared on TikTok.
“When I was a teenager, I remember gay rights being weaponised politically. That always felt ugly and nasty. We look back on that, 30 years later, and those people are clearly on the wrong side of history,” he said.
“Now, there is a similar weaponisation of these topics being taken by mostly the right wing, or certain sections of society, to create friction and conflict and division where it needn’t be. It’s just about people being themselves. You don’t need to be bothered about it. F**k off and let people be,” the Good Omens star added, to a round of applause.
I knew there was a reason I adored him. My thoughts, exactly, David. Let people be.
