Jun. 27th, 2024 09:14 pmI got confused, and couldn't figure out what happened to the latest revision of my novel, only to realize that I hadn't gotten as far as I thought. I thought I'd revised up to and including all of chapter 38, when in truth, I'd only gotten up to chapter 35.
Very discombobulating.
Work is boring. So boring that I'm contemplating interviewing for one of the jobs Linked-In keeps throwing at me. Except they are in Jersey City, and I live in Kensington, Brooklyn, and I can't move right now. Also, don't want to lose my benefits. [Not asking for advice.]

I got so bored at work that I wrote down a list of horror novels to look up later. Although I forgot to bring the list home with me.
The one's I remember from the online list were:
The House Next Door by Anne River Siddions - who I don't think of as a horror novelist?
Apartment 16 by Adam Neville
The Hunger by Alma Kaisu - a horrific re-imagining of The Donnor Party.
Those Across the River by Christopher Buehlman
The Children on the Hill by Jennifer McMahon
Also...the mystery thriller The God of the Woods by Liz Moore
Told my mother that I actually liked the idea of working in a book store - mainly because I could just sit there and read all the books in the store and be perfectly happy. That's what I did as a library aid to the consternation of the librarians who would send me shelving.
Mother: I forgot that you worked as a library aid in school.
Me: Yeah, I volunteered - it was a way to get away from all the other kids. (Kids are nasty in school.) I could sit there alone with the librarians and read all the books. Book stores were more problematic.
Mother: They are also dying.
Me: No, they've popped up again. We have four new ones this year. That and record stores.
Mother: But you can't make much..
Me: No, it's either sit behind a counter waiting for people to buy books (hard pass) or shelving, or helping them find a book (and they don't tend to want that most of the time, although I was really good at that. Better than the owners of the book store - much to their annoyance.) Mainly because I have broad tastes and read everything. I could sit in the middle of a book store and read all the books and be perfectly happy with that.
I honestly think sometimes I'm a frustrated librarian and missed my calling.
If I could find a quaint book store that would hire me part time post-retirement, with a cat, and a nook. I'd be happy. Bonus? I can hang my art work. And sell my own books out of it.

Babs: I'd love to be bored for once.
ME: Watch what you wish for - it could happen.
Babs is absent minded, and takes forever to do things, and likes to over think things and tinker. She also can't do any of her own filing.
Basically she's excellent at making unnecessary busy work for herself and has horrid time management skills.
I'm too efficient for my own good, and I work for an agency that is increasingly inefficient and mismanages its resources, human and otherwise.

Wales decided to watch my soap opera, which she's watched intermittently over the years. She texts me.
Wales: Why is GH so anti-FBI? It's also anti-law-enforcement. Is it pro-Trump?
Wales: I took the day off and decided to watch GH.
Wales: It's disturbing.
ME: What? No! It's a soap opera centered around a mobster. It's always been that way. It also has a trans doctor. And is very liberal. It fired a Magna bigot in 2021. And is owned by Disney and ABC.
ETA:
Twitter: Are we watching the debate or protecting our mental health?
Me: We are protecting our mental health, or at least I am.
Just vote against He Who Shall Not Be Named and call it a day.
Very discombobulating.
