Doing Laundry on the 4th of July, the Independence Day for the US from Great Britain. (Which alas, not everyone wanted back in the 1700s when it happened. On display in the American Natural History Museum is a petition by 500 souls who didn't. Just goes to show you, that there's always been conflict over ideology and authoritarianism. Some people a King, some don't.)

Watched or tried to watch :

Tonight with John Oliver - The Republican Candidate's 2nd Term

I pray this doesn't happen.

Is it just me or is every election cycle more frightening than the last?

Considering horror movies or series. But not sure what to watch. I think I want a Haunted House flick but not certain.

Finished The Conjuring which reminded me of HP Lovecraft cosmic horror. With a hefty misogynistic/sexist twinge to it. Women are not portrayed well in this book. It's also racist, the Children of the Dark Ones or Rumplestilskin is in the skin of an Ethopian Boy. And the bad guys are Hispanic or Dark Skinned.

I want to compare it to The Devil Takes You Home, the two feel similar, but I think Devil is better written, less racist and misogynistic and has a lot more heart. So skip this and read that?

I don't know why I'm in a horror mood - maybe to dispel real horrors plaguing me, with fake ones? Maybe that's why we have horror novels and horror movies - a way to laugh at or dispel the nightmares?

I may watch MidSommer or The Witch by Eggers, since I appear to be in a Pagan horror mood? Or I could watch Monarch of Monsters, or The Outsider.
IT appears to have left streaming, replaced by bad Steven King flicks (and I do mean bad - as in Carrie 2 and Children of the Corn).

There was a hilarious post on Twitter about Stephen King Films on Streaming, reposted by Steven King. Ah found it:

King: Pretty cool but also hilarious.

Me: And weirdly a "Good Marriage" is on a lot of channels. Also, King has something against Trucks. Plus, there's something or other entitled "You Can't Kill Stephen King"?

Also via Twitter aka - X, but I refuse to call it X. That's a horrible name for a social media platform.

When the writer of Bab5 meets the actor who played Spike aka William the Bloody.

Despite being a bit down on day one due to jetlag, had a great time at Supanova Sydney and Perth. An unexpected treat was spending some time after the con chatting with James Marsters who was everything I expected: thoughtful, insightful, open, just an altogether terrific person."

Today has unsurprisingly turned out to be a good day to do laundry. I think everyone else is frolicking outside in the lovely weather, and BBQing, in prep for the fireworks tonight.

Some are bemoaning the end of the US as we know it. (Sigh. Can we wait until after the election to make this determination? Vote#Blue folks. And if you decline to Vote or Vote for the Republicans, I don't want to know. And you deserve any hellish thing that comes your way.)

Finished laundry and landed on "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" - which is actually rather entertaining and character centric. Emphasis on the people hunting the truth about the monsters, as opposed to the monsters. Also as in all these things - the real monsters are of the human variety. It's not that scary - unless you believe Godzilla could be real?

For my 4th of July Dinner - I had a burger, with homemade salsa, pickled cucumbers, sauteed zuccini, summer squash, and tomatoes in olive oil. With Cider, and a toffee for desert.

Oh yay, it's started to rain which may kill the fireworks that were booming behind me. They got their window. Now, mother nature is making them stop.

Not to worry - we're supposed to have a thunderstorm soon.

I don't mind fire-works. I just prefer they stop at a reasonable time and not go all night.
