Jul. 8th, 2024 08:47 pmAfter four-five days of having my blood pressure and blood sugar spike, I've decided to pull back from Twitter and FB for the foreseeable future. Both have managed to terrify me - in regards to the November Election.
I'm hoping the US follows the UK and France in regards to elections this year. But I can't think about it - without worrying and having panic attacks. So backing away from FB and Twitter and Bluesky for the foreseeable future. DW is actually safe in that regard.
I'm also using two different meditation apps: 1) Headspace and 2) Calm for sleep and handling stressful situations. They are helping. But I really need to just call a moratorium on all political news and postings. It's not good for my blood pressure.
Came home. Spoke to mother. Vented about the political situation until she told me to stop it. Took shower. Did stretching exercises and yoga. Lower back had spams-ed and caused sciatica to go down right leg again. Actually I think it's just digestive issues. Super showed up to fix kitchen faucet. It's still broken, although works slightly better than before.
I thought about asking him who left the poop at the front door this morning and decided best not to - since that wasn't going to end well, and honestly? I didn't want to know. Plus he was in a good mood. And can barely speak English (Russian and Polish, yes, English...). [On my way out the door at 6:30 AM this morning, I sidestepped poop that someone had run a wheel through? And I thought, folks really need to pick up after their dogs. But it was thankfully gone by the time I returned home.]

I'm re-watching Glee on Hulu, mainly for the musical numbers. It's also mindless tv. It does have some great musical performances in it. (I'm a sucker for a good musical number.) I'd forgotten most of it. Totally forgot that Mercedes was in it from the beginning. It's kind of bittersweet - considering about three-four of the actors in it are now dead. They made it pretty dark - in places, I'm kind of amazed they got away with some of it. But considering the game plan was to go even darker and soapier...with the satire, this is kind of tame in comparison.
Mother: I'd think it would trigger you about your own high school experiences.
Me: Nah. Can't remember high school. And it's not close to it at all. Considering the kids are all played by twenty-thirty somethings. It's kind of hard to take all that seriously. It's a satire about high school, with music. And I like the music and dance numbers. They do a lot of dance numbers in the school hallways.
I want mindless easy to watch television right now for some reason. Preferably something I already know the ending to and won't frustrate me.
Plus it made me laugh with a bunch of football players dancing to Beyonce's All the Single Ladies. It's a thing of beauty. And at the end, Kirk comes out to his beer-drinking, football loving, stereotypical heterosexual Dad - and instead of condemning Kirk, he gives him a hug and accepts him. See? Comfort food with musical numbers.

Enjoying Dreadful by Caitlin Rozikiris - which I've been reading in paperback on the train now. First time I've read an actual book on the train in forever. I'm the only one reading an actual book on the train. Everyone else is either reading their phones/scrolling/texting/playing video games on them. It's so odd - that an old guy across from me (seriously he was probably just my age) was staring at me. He had a t-shirt on that said - "the mere fact that there is a Highway to Hell and a Stairway to Heaven - says it all about humanity". Or something along those lines.
The book makes me laugh. The protagonist, a Dark Wizard, is currently running around his Castle with a princess and a couple of goblins in tow - from a knowledge demon who stole his memories.
