Nov. 12th, 2024 09:27 pm1. Book Recs via a Book Devouring Horde of fantasy/sci-fantasy/urban fantasy and romance/fantasy readers.
Illona Andrews blog asked for book recs from the Book Devouring Horde (that's what they call their fans/readerships - the BDH or Horde). The rule was to provide one title of one book with the author.
Poster: Rules of Redemption by TA White (it's only $3.99 on Kindle)
Poster 2: Pathfinder Series
Poster 3: Firebird series is really good. It's the best, I love it!
Poster 4: Pathfinder, Firebird, Dragonridden, ...
ME: Uhm, who is the author for these series? Are they all TA White? I can't find them.
About twenty posts down...I discover that yes, they are all TA White. And Rules of Redemption is actually the first book in the Firebird series. (Ugh, I hate series.)
Me: Nevermind, found Firebird - by TA White further down. But Pathfinder eludes me, is it by Orson Scott Card, that doesn't sound right?
Poster: Pathfinder's Way is the first in the Broken Lands series, presumably they mean that book.
They also rec'd a really odd book that I was able to grab for free via Kindle Unlimited.
"The Goblin General by Autumn Dawn and also by the same author The Convergence series, brilliant books."
( synopsis )
They had me at no explicit sex and slow burn romance. (I've gotten tired of explicit sex scenes in books - they are repetitive, often ludicrous, and boring. Let's face it there's only so much you can do without going all circue de soliel. It's like fight scenes. Unless it pushes the characters and plot forward, we don't need to see it. Also I've read a lot of bad sex scenes.)
2. Entertainment News...
* Marvel's Wolverine and Deadpool or is it Deadpool and Wolverine? Flick is now streaming on Disney Plus. Woo-hoo! I'm watching that this weekend.
I still need to figure out how to get the bundle.
* I upgraded Amazon to the ad-free option, because I can't watch Rings of Power otherwise. The ads were driving me crazy. Instead of just having ads before and after the show, they now have them throughout.
Oh, as an aside, according to my new app, Amazon went completely democrat, with the exception of Kevin McCarthy.
* Jude Law is starring in the new Star Wars series Skeleton Crew!
See fun...trailer of Disney Stuff: Disney + Trailer for 2025
3. Reading - working way through "The September House" - which is a kind of funky haunted house novel. OR a haunted house novel with a sense of humor?
Think Grady Hedrix, or T Kingfisher, not as scary?
It's okay. Still in reading slump.
Also re-reading X-Factor and X-men comics - because my attention span can only handle audio books (Fate's Edge - which is insanely long by the way - the Edge books by Illona Andrews are incredibly long-winded), or graphic novels/comics. My mind has issues focusing still.
4. TV Talk asked "Pick 3 TV shows that best describe you. What would you pick and why?"
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Farscape
Star Trek the Next Generation - actually just the Trek verse.
I honestly don't know why.
5. I hope tomorrow will be a better day than today, and that it will rain.
It won't rain. But it may be better?
