And maybe even pottery?
It's been a week. I don't know about you all? But I'm glad it's over. TGIF and all that.
I've decided to take a vacation from the news. If I can't do anything about it? I do not want to know about it. And there's a lot of it, isn't there? I miss last year - when the only thing to be really upset about (outside of the election from hell) was the Israel/Gaza conflict. Those were the good old days.
Although at the same time, I'm a little afraid to look away? What if I miss something important or an opportunity to make a difference? (I truly miss the 1990s. I never thought I'd say that. But I do.)
Positive news? God, is there any? Ah yes, 7 Planets Aligned Just After Sunset Today - I missed it. But I was most likely unable to see it in either event - I live in NYC, and there's lots of light pollution. But, apparently you can see it online Here or a simulation at any rate.
I did manage to boycott or buy nothing from retail establishments today. (I only bought food and from the corner fruit and vegetable market, which is a disadvantaged minority owned and run business and the only exception to the rule.) I don't know how much good it did. I saw something (can't remember where) on social media stating that the difficulty with a lot of boycotts is they aren't well organized. People don't know about them - and if you rely too heavily on social media - people won't know about them there either.
Me: Today is an Economic Boycott - don't buy anything from any franchise, shopping center, Walmart, Whole Foods, do banking, any of that - use cash, and only from disadvantaged businesses or small businesses for essentials.
Breaking Bad: Now, I feel bad for buying a Bagel at the 7 Eleven this morning.
ME: Don't. You didn't know. It was mainly advertised in social media and not everyone has it.
Breaking Bad is the original luddite. He only has his work computer. He doesn't own a computer or printer at home.
I'm not feeling fannish about much of anything these days. Even my soap opera is aggravating me. And I have a case of the winter woes. I always get depressed this time of year - combination of the weather (seasonal depression), aches and pains exacerbated by the weather, work, and not having had an actual vacation in a long time. I want to go somewhere sunny and with lots of plants.
