Monday is hanging in there...
Apr. 7th, 2025 09:11 pmI distracted myself tonight - talking to mother, watching the soap and an episode of BTVS S2, and answering several questions about summer camp for someone who lives in the UK and has no clue what it is. It's easy to spiral downwards either into rage/hate, or despair with the constant horror show.
I was hunting for weather and possibly the rail report this morning - and got news on area "shootings" and "stabbings", along with traffic jams, and the stock market plummeting. I give up. I'm just using the Weather app and the Transit app from now on, and meditating instead.
Raise your hand if you want to move with me to Scandinavia? Doubtful they will take us, although I hear Norway is open to visitors with no visa requirements. It's cold up there - which may explain it? I have Norwegian and Finnish blood - so maybe? Also my great grandparents on my father's side did immigrate from Ireland (well his mother's parents did), so Ireland might take me, but not sure about Mother, which would be problematic.
My Hands Off T-Shirt came - a day late, and a dollar short - but it came.
I'm wearing it now. It's kind of helping? Also gave to the ACLU over the weekend. Debating donating to the DNC, just not sure if that's akin to throwing funds down the proverbial well?
Anywho...I did find some good news?
1.In Vilnius, Lithuania, a circular screen has been unveiled that allows real-time viewing of the streets of Lublin, Poland, and vice versa, establishing an interesting visual link between the two cities. This innovative project, inspired by the science fiction series "Stargate," connects communities located 600 km apart through a large-scale video call. Equipped with a webcam and internet access, the device not only offers residents the opportunity to observe daily life in the other city, but also promotes cultural exchange and interaction between the two localities, becoming a technological bridge that strengthens the connection between their inhabitants.
2. Random quote that amused me: "Remember when people had diaries and got mad when someone read them? Now they put everything online and get mad when people don’t."
3. Just voted in my local community election for funding for various school and educational programs, along with repairs to bathrooms in a school, bathrooms in the park, and updating of media for laptops, and other educational learning devices.
Off to bed. And hopefully sleep, and perchance to dream.
Oh, if you have HBO MAX or can find it elsewhere, go see the movie Sing Sing, I watched it last night and it is brilliant, and uplifting in its own way. It's about how an in-house prison theater program at Sing Sing prison in Upstate NY, inspired and helped rehabilitate various prisoners.
Highly recommend.
